Do you recognize this pattern
1 Attachment(s)
A friend of mine made this quilt and wants to display it in a show however, she cannot remember the name of it. She made it a couple of years ago and says the pattern came out of a magazine that she had.
Does anyone know the name? (part picture) |
I don't know the name but the style looks like something by Bonnie Hunter.
|
No but I like it. Please share the name when it is identified if it is not in a post on here..
|
The first block is fifty four forty or fight(http://www.quilterscache.com/F/Fifty...ightBlock.html), I know the other but can't think of it.
|
Quite an impressive quilt!
... two different blocks put together for one incredible design, way beyond what one would expect. Do you have a photo of the quilt after quilting? Would love to see it. Incredible piecing by your friend, and definitely show-worthy. If you don't come up with the name or details, for sure tell her to enter it. Just be honest and tell the story that she knows about the pattern. |
Emily's quilt or something like that by Fons and Porter?
|
Lovely quilt! The 54-40 block was sometimes combined with the Corn and Beans block. If she found it in a modern magazine, they probably renamed it themselves. She should just give it her own title and mention it is a combination of traditional blocks.
|
The quilt is wonderful, I hope someone finds the magazine article information on it. I would love to make it.
|
Don't know the name but, it is very pretty.

I agree with Tartan. If you use the 50-40 block in combination with another block, it gives the illusion of circles. Fons & Porter had one on the cover of one of their magazines a few years ago with the 54-40 and and a star block and they called it friendship rings. I don't think the alternate block on this one is corn and beans. Someone just brought up an old thread(2011?) today with the corn and beans. These patterns have had a lot of names and I want to make every one I see, including this one:D. Fools the eye is another name. I'll try to show friendship rings. I don't do well with pics here. yea! I did it. Small, but I did it.

Cannot help with pattern name but this is stunning work and should be entered.
|
Fons and porter had one that was called Emily’s flower garden. I made the top but never finished it into a quilt.
|
Lovely, and yes 50 - 40, would love to know the name of the other block too.
|
It really looks like a Bonnie Hunter pattern.

I isolated the second block. It's really small, but someone may be able to ID it.

Can't help with the pattern, but what a gorgeous quilt!
|
The second block looks like some variation of a churn dash, and when I googled that, one of the hits was this, which is very similar, but uses just a basic churn dash instead of this fancy one. Maybe your friend did something creative beyond what was in the pattern? http://www.maryquilts.com/new-churn-dash-stars/

Thank you so much everyone for all of your help and suggestions.
Rose_P - My friend is a wonderful piecer but never takes liberties with a pattern, unless I'm there to egg her on :) And she made this one on her own with a definite pattern. So if we can't figure it out by the time the quilt show comes, she can always enter it with the name of one of the blocks 50-40 and a note that explains that there is an additional unknown block and that it came from a magazine. Someone who sees it at the show may know. I'll keep you posted along with a full photo of the quilted quilt. Thanks again, you are all so helpful. |
Check out Aunt Graces Garden in the pictures on here.It was done from fons and porters magazine.its posted by Deb B, april 07,2016 Anna

Some of you wanted to see the quilt finished so here it is.
Still no name but I suggested to her what some of you suggested and told her to attach a FQ to the quilt when she shows it, as a bonus for anyone who has the information. |
The names of these two blocks are -
1. 54-40 or Fight 2. Corn and Beans It was designed by Marti Michell for American Patchwork & Quilting. Hope this helps? Graciella |
