Do you use black batting?

kristen0112 10-07-2010 01:22 PM

I did in my king sized black quilt. The white could have poked through the stitching and would have shown.

Just finished one with black batting because the top was mostly black and the back was black fannelette so to prevent and show through I used black. Usually use natural Warm and Natural though on all other quilts.

I use it on quilts with either all or mostly dark fabrics. I've only used the Hobbs black batting, though. Typically I use Warm and Natural or Warm and White on 90% of my quilts.

I have a package of grey batting, I'm just waiting for the right quilt to use it with.

I have used Dream Black for a few quilts.

I didn't even KNOW black or gray batting was available!!!!! I'll definately use it on my next dark quilt...I've been grousing because my black/white/red quilt has the batting poking thru and the white batting REALLY shows!

Black is great. I have used it several times on darker quilts and on one that I handstitched with a variegated color thread. Came out beautifully.

Didn't know they made black batting.

Yes, it is wonderful for dark quilts :D:D:D

seamstome 10-07-2010 02:45 PM

Yes for black or dark blue quilts. It is not easy to find around me though. Only one LQS carries it.

I had made a wall hanging for Christmas with a starry night and I didn't know there was black batting! The stars were looking like comets.

I just took a large, mostly black quilt for Long Arm Quilting; my first
such experience, & she said it definitely needed a black batting. I had
taken her Warm & Natural neutral color. She showed me what would
happen on one she had made for herself. So she was kind enough to
swap it out for me; exchanged my Warm & Natural for the black batting.
I was not aware there was black batting prior to this experience.
Very grateful for this assistance.

I have a dark quilt I am working on, and bought black batting to go in it. I didnt want the white to come thru. But as a rule, I use Warm & Natural.

I am working on one now that I have black quilters dream. It is mostly black quilt.

Do you order your black batting online or pick it up at a store? I would like to buy a roll of it , as I make a lot of quilts with black backings , and don't want the white fuzzies showing up.
