Do you use a flying geese ruler? Which one?

I'm looking at the quilt in day small, but I'm wondering about the no math one. Which flying geese ruler do you use? If you had to purchase a flying geese ruler, which one would you purchase?

KarenR 07-22-2013 04:08 AM

I don't use a ruler.

ohstr 07-22-2013 04:10 AM

Deb Tucker Studio 180 designs rulers - Wing Clipper these rulers can be used for all sizes of flying geese and you only need one to make several sizes of FG. I have several of her rulers and I really like them. She has a website and there are several You Tube videos that you can check out -- Good Luck!,

zazulka 07-22-2013 04:13 AM

I made a very large quilt, almost entirely made up of flying geese. I used the Quilt in a day ruler and it went VERY FAST and very accurate. I was pleased.

Boonedox 07-22-2013 04:14 AM

Wing Clipper by Deb Tucker for me too.

peaceandjoy 07-22-2013 04:14 AM

I'm a Wing Clipper fan, too! You do trim down - thus wasting a tiny bit of fabric - but they come out PERFECT every time.

#1piecemaker 07-22-2013 04:18 AM

Sorry I can't help on this one cause I needed the answer too. Thanks for asking.

QuiltnNan 07-22-2013 04:31 AM

i use a regular ruler, not a FG ruler. they were difficult at first, but after some practice... easy to do

EIQuilter 07-22-2013 04:40 AM

When I use the Wing Clipper, I get the most accurate flying geese I've ever made. Love it!

alleyoop1 07-22-2013 04:59 AM

I struggled with flying geese on my avatar quilt. Next time I'll try Ricky Tims method. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Mu0C_QL8Y

Belfrybat 07-22-2013 05:13 AM

I use the EZ flying geese ruler and rarely have to trim more than just the top edge, if that. And no annoying little triangles to have to clip off. http://www.amazon.com/Wrights-4-Inch.../dp/B000PCWMVS

Now if I could just find a tool this nifty to make perfect hst with no trimming....

pocoellie 07-22-2013 06:20 AM

Nope, don't use any "specialty" rulers but if you want one and feel it would help you, then you should probably get one, but I'm way too tight with my money and there are easy ways to make them.

Rose Marie 07-22-2013 06:25 AM

Quilt In A Day rulers make 4 at a time. Perfect geese everytime.

luvstoquilt301 07-22-2013 06:25 AM

Quilt In A Day---I had my beginners making perfect geese with this ruler.

ManiacQuilter2 07-22-2013 06:29 AM

I don't use a ruler either. I use Eleanor Burns method. It is easy and quick using two squares of fabric, one larger than the other is. You will have 4 flying geese units after doing some diagonal stitch and cutting similar to doing HST. The really neat thing is if you are off just a bit, you can actually make any corrections before you trim them down to size!!

Kitsie 07-22-2013 08:37 AM

If you use this method you'll never need a ruler!

That's the easiest and fastest way I've ever found to make flying geese.

Love the Creative Grids flying geese ruler!

I agree. I use quilt in a day geese rulers and love how fast they work up, and the trimming is so quick.

I use Quilt in a Day ruler for fast easy and perfect flying geese. I have both the large and small. Love them

Scraplady 07-22-2013 05:09 PM

I have watched Elanor Burns use her QIAD flying geese rulers so many times and it looks so easy that when I had a chance to buy a set cheap off ebay, I ordered them. I have not had a chance to use them yet. I got the large and small sizes. I like the idea of making them a little oversized and trimming them down because somehow I always get the goose's "beak" too close to the edge and the point gets cut off. Looks like there are a lot of ways to do them.

I just bought this ruler. I am so glad to hear you like it!

Conartist1945 07-23-2013 04:31 AM

Check out Bonnie Hunter's site. She makes them with the companion angles rulers and there is no waste.

lovelyl 07-23-2013 04:53 AM

I use Deb Tucker's Wing Clipper also! I have the quilt in a day ruler also, but it is limited to two sizes. The wing clipper has several sizes you can make with the one ruler.

I've tried other rulers, but this is the best.

Donnamarie 07-23-2013 05:49 AM

There are a couple of flying geese rulers out there but according to all my quilting friends they all say that the Deb Tucker Flying Geese ruler is the best. I do love it. I tend to make my blocks a wee bit larger and trim them down using this ruler. Another great ruler is the Tucker Trimmer. I don't purchase all rulers and I have found that both these rulers are worth the investment.

coopah 07-23-2013 07:31 AM

Eleanor Burns flying geese rulers that come in a set of two. Bought at JoAnne's with a coupon. Mom and I were having a dickens of a time until we bought those rulers and finished quickly!

mjhaess 07-23-2013 08:02 AM

I use Eleanor Burns ruler....Love it..

margaret53 07-23-2013 10:09 AM

Bought my Quilt in a Day flying geese ruler (small) from Joann's with coupon. I love it!

fangman 07-23-2013 02:25 PM

I use Eleanor Burns ruler and it goes fast. You can also do her method and not necessarily use her ruler.

Annaquilts 07-23-2013 03:04 PM

I would use the quilt in the day rulers and own both or I do the now waste method (no ruler).

janny40 07-24-2013 03:21 AM

I have one I bought from Marti Michell

Michellesews 07-24-2013 05:28 AM

I have every flying geese ruler made and if you want Quilt in a Day, I will send them to you! I use the Wing Clipper by Deb Tucker. She has a Wing Clipper II out now, but I find the original Wing Clipper gets used 99% of the time. In fact, I lost it and bought another, then found the old one, so now I have one I can leave packed in my Going Quilting bag. I use the two squares method whereby you get 4 flying geese at once. I had a quilt with 64 flying geese, itty bitty ones, and without that Wing Clipper I never would have been able to make that quilt. It is worth every penny of
the $20.00 it costs. I love mine. Michelle

roykat 07-24-2013 12:34 PM

I use the quilt-in-a- day FC rulers because I get four done with minimal waste. I like Ricky Tims method if I want it 3D

jannxin 07-24-2013 02:57 PM
