Do you use pencils to mark outlines
 

I use pencils but cannot see properly through the ruler to mark the next lines to quilt on . Any ideas what to use as my lines sometimes are not so straight. Help please.

Unfortunately, I cannot help; I have a similar problem. I will be watching this thread for the ideas that members provide. This board is composed of so many very talented and experienced quilters, so I know they will have solutions to offer.

I have thought of it, but worry about the lines not coming out in the wash. I have been using chalk. Now, if you are talking about lines that are the same distance apart, I think you might try making a template of some sort in the size that you want. That way it would not matter if you could see through it. Hope this helps.

I see a lot of the quilters here use blue painters tape to make straight lines.

For the quilt I am working on today, I used a 1" wide ruler and drew my lines with a Frixion pen. I know many people do not like Frixion pens; but they will come off the fabric I am using. The quilt is for one of my daughter's foster children. It will be washed frequently and will not be exposed to cold that would make the marks return.

Sometimes, on dark fabric, I have marked with soap. I have also used the blue painter's tape.

I use painters tape for straight lines. Easy to keep the lines straight and evenly spaced and no problem with removing marks.

I use a combination of blue painter's tape and the Clover Hera marker which makes a temporary sort of a dent in the fabric. EB has started using this tool but that could be that Clover is a sponsor.

Blue painter's tape is for me. It comes in several widths, too.

If you have a walking foot on then stick that bar thing in the side which will keep line level. Using this you only have to mark one line.
Or if lines are closer, move needle and use edge of walking foot to line up.
