Have you tried paper piecing the log cabin blocks? They come out perfect every time. I have the same problem and could never get it right so paper piecing solved my problem.
Have a Blessed day

I have soothing music to calm the beast when I have to rip out. I swear like a sailor (which my husband was one) and all he has to say is "Do you eat with that mouth?"

How about .... throwing it on the floor and jumping on it whilst cursing? I did that once and felt much better. Finished my blocks no problem. BUT I NEVER MADE THAT BLOCK AGAIN!!!! and it wasn't a log cabin block.

try paper piecing a log cabin block next time, I have lots better luck with "perfection" doing them this way. It takes all the worry out of those exact seam lines and measurements. I think we have all had our moments, take a break and try again.

I love your avatar! Very pretty.

I am getting better about my cursing when quilting. I have joined with the ladies at church to hand quilt one day a week. I have to pray for God to hold my tongue. That works pretty good...at least has tamed me a little...when I poke my finger with the needle!

If it's not fun ... put it away ... but don't give up quilting. Find a quick easy project that would be fun! Some day, when the time is right and your patience level is higher, you will pull this quilt out and it will be a breeze to finish ... wonky or not. Even if it's not perfect, someone will love it. And BTW, you are not alone ... i've been known to screech while quilting when I've done something incredibly stupid. ;)

When Grandma made a mistake she said "oh siskabobs" I thought it was just part of sewing when you made a mistake. LOL

I was sewing with kids and one of them made a mistake and I said "Oh siskabobs!" and they asked why I said it. I told them that is just part of sewing. LOL Then said we can't swear maybe that's why Grandma taught me it.

Apron lady,
Just slow down and know that if it is a big quilt that it will take time. I had to learn that and am still working on it.

I am sure your quilt will turn out beautiful. Make sure you post it so we can see how nice it is.

Have a great day.

thanks for the information but now that you brought this subject up. Why when we are measuring for a 12 1/2 block that before it is done it is less. Am I not cutting right? At times say a 6 1/2 by 6 1/2 turns into a 6 1/2 by 6 and almost a 6 1/2 but like to marks short.

This I really need help with.
