I'm done with the last block of Rachel's Flower Garden but it needs a bit of embroidery in the centers. I'm not exactly sure how to do it If someone knows how please write me. It kind of looks like they may have cut the threads to make them look whispy. Check it out at: http://www.whims.cc/rfg_camillia.htm. That's all I have left to do before I get this quilt put together.

I know, I tried it after I sent that. I went ahead and just made them look like eyelashes and it seems to have worked. It was for my last block the Camillia.

The way I would do it is thread a 6-strand floss with no knot. from the front, I'd run the thread under and back up close, while holding a length of "tail" on the front. Then I would knot them, unravel the floss into separate threads, slip a drop of fray-check on the knot itself.

I wasn't sure but I did not the back and pulled it through and just cut it off and frayed it. It will probably all fall out if it ever goes i the laundry..Didn't take long so I can always do it again.

I left one row off of the daffodils. Have to get that on and figure out which one is the smallest and cut them all down to that size. After I did a few I started ironing them better so they got BIGGER...

I used to teach embroidery at home parties (28 yrs ago!!)for a co. called Creative Circle Stitchery. I used to do a stitch that filled in an area and then you trimmed off the top to allow it to stand up kinda like rug fibers.
But I can't remember the name of the stitch and when I tried to recreate it now I wasn't doing something right.
This is used to fill in the body of for example a teddy bear or a bee or something like that.
Maybe someone knows what I am talking about because I remember making these but it has been so long I can't remember how to do it any more
Sorry I'm not much help. I thought a satin stitch would work but it isn't quite right.

Yep, safest way to do those centers. You could do a knot on both sides but you'd have to tie the top knot and then fray the dangling ends. Fray check and fabric glue. Two staples in my house. :wink:

It's going to be a beautiful quilt.

Thanks, I will probably have to do it that way in the near future. I'm sure too tired to do any more today. I wanted to put this quilt atogether by tomorrow afternoon but it's not looking like it will happen.
