If you get a package of 'crafting needles' the one that says for yarn darning or something similar is the one I use for tying. It is quite fat and fairly long with a point and a very large eye.

Yes, had a choice of completed or quilted, Didn't have the big machine at the time, no extra $$ for LAQ. Tacked and tied W/turkey tracks or 2 loops and a knot, have quitled using yarn it seemed to unravel and friz, (could have been the brand). Like cotton threads, one out there that is really thick, or all strands of embroidery thread, sharp darning needle, and a pair of sm plyers, pinned to the carpet, :) or on a hanging frame, not as painful as the carpet. (that would be on my tush)
Whatever works for you is quilting !!! No QP :)

I learned on my first quilts to tie them from my mother for years ago that is all she did. I like it for lap robes and some other small quilts.

I tied a small childs quilt once but I didn't feel I did a good job. The child loved it however I've never gotten up the courage to try it again. All my quilts go to a friend to be machine quilted. I do admire a nicely done tied quilt. It takes as much skill to make a tied quilt as it does a quilted quilted.

I tie my quilts, because I don't know what to do any other way. I can't afford to send one to the lady here in our town who machine quilts them, so tieing is the best way to complete one..

Yes! I love the comfy feel from a tied quilt.

I tie my scrap quilts. Once in a while I do both handquilting and tying.

yep I do the tie thing because after spending so much time making the tops I'm scared I will screw it up if I try to do it on the machine & since I no longer work (means no income) I can not afford to have it done for me.
But my family and friends are happy with the quilts I make them and that's all that matters. Right?
