Does anyone have this cabinet or one like it?

I'm trying to save up for this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NQN3EE/ I like the leaf on the back for when doing larger quilts and that it folds down to save space when piecing. Plus I want one that lets me put my machine inside so the bed is level with the table (I have that now but the brackets block the hole for the knee lift so I can't use it).

Anyone have one like this? Or are there any others that are the same, only cheaper?

I put a small table behind my sewing table when I need an extension. I have two tables. I have a Gidget table with a drop in it for the sewing machine (my machine is an older, smaller one so I filled in the gaps with a plastic place mat I cut up). I paid around $125 for the smaller Gidget table. The other is a Sauder table, I got it at Walmart and they do go on sale frequently for $99. It doesn't have a drop in although my husband said he could probably rig one up for me.

I have this exact cabinet (here it's the Horn 'Eclipse') and I LOVE it. When I bought mine I got a 'blank' insert for the top as well as one cut for my Janome. I use the blank as a light box by putting a couple of battery lights from the Pound shop (Dollar store, lol) on top of machine when in the down position.
I've since bought a longer arm Pfaff QE 4 and it almost fills the space, so I haven't bothered with another insert. I love having all my things to hand - I keep a small iron and pad on the right side so I don't have to move if I just want to do small jobs like piecing seams, binding etc.

The problem is that I don't have the space to store another table. that's why I like the drop-down leaf. It would not take up any room when it's dropped down. My current table is like the white one you have, and one of those white brackets that hold the shelf is right in front of the hole for the knee lift. My husband had to make the hole in the desk larger to accommodate my 6600 so there's no wiggle room.

thanks! that insert idea sounds like a good one. I have a light box but my kids are always using it.

I've never had a table with a lift inside so that's also something that I really like about it. At $950 I need to start saving up my $$.

I don't have it, but it looks wonderful!

I have the Koala cabinet, very similar to the one shown, have had it for years and it works well for me...When we have company it all folds up, machine goes inside and can be rolled out of the way....

Nammie to 7 06-30-2013 01:43 PM

My cabinet also has a leaf that folds up - it stays up as I use the space underneath for quilt kits and drawers of fabric. I like the expanded work space!

twinkie 07-01-2013 02:47 AM

Very nice looking.

qwkslver 07-01-2013 04:08 AM

I have one that looks like the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pictures that came from Walmart. It's pretty well made and I love it. I keep it unfolded but in the back of my mind I realize I could fold it up small if I needed/wanted to. I prefer the cheaper sewing furniture so my heart doesn't break if it gets dinged.

ladydukes 07-01-2013 05:46 AM

I have a Koala cabinet I purchased years ago. It is very large when opened up. I leave it open all the time, unless I am having a party and need the extra room. On the part that opens up in front of my sewing machine, I have a very large cutting mat, which comes in very handy!

tessagin 07-01-2013 05:52 AM

Love the cabinet.

mjhaess 07-01-2013 07:16 AM

I bought that same cabinet last fall from a Habitat Restore for 40.00...I love it.

LyndaOH 07-01-2013 07:28 AM

I have the Kangaroo Aussie and absolutely love it! The quality is great, and the fold down quilting leaf is a real space saver. Mine is a bit bigger and I've never had to open it all the way, but love knowing that I can. I purchased mine through Connecting Threads (no local dealer) and it came with $275 of their fabric and notions as well as a gift card and free shipping. I don't know if they are still running that special, but watch for others on their site.

Jakers1 07-01-2013 10:06 AM

I have the Sauder table and love it. I do not have and will not put in a drop in function because I can move the machine back to have work space in front, then move it back when sewing. I also love all the storage. I would however, put a two by four under the extension to stabilize it.

I sent you an email yesterday but didn't hear back. Maybe it went into your junk folder.

Check out Tracey's tables they are more reasonable than Horn and Koala and made very sturdy and prices are good.
You can also custom order different options. They are from WI. No affiliation but a happy customer.

gale 07-01-2013 01:14 PM

They look nice but I don't understand why companies don't put prices on their website. I hate emailing for prices. Their website has very little information otherwise too. I'll still email them though-thanks!

I have the Wallaby. I purchased mine from Joann's online a month or so ago. It was on sale. I feel like that it was a bargain and I am very happy with mine. One door arrived damaged but the company replaced it immediately. They were really great to work with. Also, if you go to their site, they will point you to Youtube videos that show you step by step how to put it together. It was realatively easy for me & my husband to put together.

I have an older model of the Kangaroo Cabinet. Mine is the Aussie and was actually made in Australia. I LOVE this cabinet. Plenty of room for sewing and folds up small when needs to be out of the way. I had one slight problem, I bought it used and had to order the insert for my Viking. Unfortunately I assumed the new ones were the same as the old ones and when the insert came it was much too big. So had to spend another $79 to get the proper fit. My fault but was painful to the pocket book. Just think of all the fabric I could have bought....:O(

sewplease 07-01-2013 04:07 PM

I have an older Koala quilt table which I love. However, one thing to check out which may or may not make a difference to you is this. The extension top of mine opens up from the chair side of the machine and lays on top of the support behind the machine. If I don't want to use the extension, I have to have it "lean" on the wall. This isn't a problem for me. At the time I got my table, another brand had the back leaf fold all the way down in the back and is lifted up to slide on the support, so if it wasn't needed it just is left down. Does this make sense? I can't tell from the photo which way this one goes, and it may not even matter to you. :-)

gale 07-01-2013 05:26 PM

So far the ones I'm looking at fold down in the back. It wouldn't be good for my space if it didn't so I'll be sure to watch for that.

M.I.Late 07-01-2013 05:32 PM

I don't have that cabinet - but keep watching Craigs list - I see sewing cabinets on there all the time. (Just take someone with you when you go to look at it)

gale 07-01-2013 05:44 PM

We don't have a craigslist here. There is one for a town about an hour away so I can look at it.

I have a Horn cabinet with 4 drawers and an extension and add on cabinet with drawer and door for serger...
at home. Have had it for 10 years very sturdy , .wish it had the back extension to put up when quilting.....at our summer cottage I have a Sauder cabinet from Walmart...have had it at least 5 years and it is still just like new ...no problems with it at all and rather then have machine down in it, I prefer it to be uncut so that
I can use it for my computer or whatever .

I have the kangaroo cabinet Aussie, which is just a slightly more delux version of the Wallaby. Love the fold out leaf behind the sewing machine. I had to turn the cabinet so I faced into the room in order to have space for the leaf--bonus is that I now don't face a wall and I can see the TV. Love the cabinet. I've had mine for over two years now and have absolutely no complaints. When I got my new machine (Babylock Crescendo with a knee lift--Whoo Hoo never had a lift before), there was plenty of room for the knee lift lever.

Knitette 07-01-2013 11:20 PM

I noticed that Connecting Threads has this for $849. Over here they're £859 - about $1300. It does come ready assembled though (small island ) but for the price difference, I would have been only too glad to have built mine, lol.

I have a Horn cabinet (not this one) and I LOVE IT!! They are hand crafted, made in the US, and guaranteed for life......

tenngal 07-05-2013 11:29 AM

I have this cabinet, also. Think I paid $100 and like it very much.

gale 07-05-2013 07:13 PM

I wish I could find it for $100!! The price at amazon is $950.

I have this cabinet and absolutely love it. It does take up a lot of room with both sides extended and the back table up. It has a lot of storage room with all of the bins, the pull out has 2 drawers and an open storage cubicle. The machine sets on an adjustable shelf table that can be lowered to be level with the machine bed or up so my embroidery unit can be attached for use. I am an Arrow dealer and looked at all units available and this was the one I wanted because of the area to make quilts. I do the binding for some of my customers after I am finished their long arm quilting. If you are interested in more info, you can contact me for further info and you can go to www.arrow.com and there are pictures and specification information available on all of the Arrow and Kangaroo cabinets.

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 07-08-2013 04:03 AM

I have the Sauder table and I love it. It's on rollers so you could probably roll it out and put a table behind it for quilting. Of course the other table is really nice but I just couldn't justify paying that much for it.

gale 07-08-2013 11:16 AM

thanks everyone! I have decided to buy a used Horn cabinet from a fellow QB member.

OzarksGma, I emailed you over a week ago after you posted on page 1 of this thread but never heard back.

That's what I do now but I won't have room to store the table. So I have to have one that folds up/down.

gale 07-08-2013 11:55 AM

Turns out the horn cabinet won't fit my machine. :( So I'm back to square one. I'll try to send a pm to ozarksgma.
