the looooong piece of paper worked like a charm. I had the stems meeting at the corner and then will applique a square over the ends....wasn't hard at all but I did easy curves so it wouldn't be so drastic...thanks...

I would think you could use an Elmer's Glue Stick to stick your stencils down as well.

I use a Sue Pellard Designs Leaves Galore Applique Template - Grande. It has two sizes of nice swoops to use for vines. I mark it on the border, usually with the purple disappearing pen, or chalk on a dark fabric. I usually quilt that line first, then go back to put in the leaves, but sometimes just do one pass for vine and leaves. http://www.createforless.com/sue-pel...pid194434.aspx The ruler is made for cutting, but I mostly use it for quilt marking. I use a Sweet Sixteen and am still practicing to get even spacing of free motion quilting.

I believe Quilt in a Day and Missouri Star have rulers for scallops and vines.

I draw a design out on copy paper and make multiple copies in my printer and tape it together (end to end). Sometimes you may have to make every other copy in a reverse image, but it works perfectly for my longarm.

When I need to have a border match I use adding machine tape. You can cut it the length of your border and just keep folding it in half until you have the space you want - then just unfold it and you have your sections ready to mark. It's probably the easiest way I have found.
