this also works on hemming blue jeans at the inner heavy seam-I have a rubber hammer and block of wood I keep by my sewing machine table , I do a lot of sewing besides quilting.

I purchased a white rubber mallet from Harbor Freight for less than $5. I was going to get the black one, but my DH told me it would make marks on the fabric-to get a white one. I was proud that he was so attentive to my craft!

Agreed. I have a rubber mallet from Harbor Freight, it is orange, and was inexpensive. Now if I could only remember where I put it...

:(

Does anyone happen to know the density of the rubber on this mallet?
It was pointed out to me that they apparently come in different "hardness" for different uses...

The first thing I also thought of was a rubber mallet -

BUT as I delved deeper into her site, I was impressed with her use of embellished prairie points!

First I'm trying to picture the look on my family's faces when I start hammering a quilt.

Second, I'm wondering if a deadblow hammer would work even better. It would be much heavier than a mallet but still have the rubbery stuff.
