when sewing purses, the "whack" works just fine with a hammer with some batting on the head of it. makes for nice flat seams that are thick........jacie

Yup, I use my DH's big rubber mallet, with clean plastic wrap over it of course. Matter of fact I do the same thing to pound chicken breasts or tenderloin for carpaccio. He thinks I'm nuts when I clean the rubber and the wood handle, even though it has not touched the product.
