I will need a walking foot if I'm going to try to do any quilting, right? I was going to try the stitch in the ditch on my I Spy quilt - but I'm having trouble trying to figure out what walking foot to buy - and even where to get it. I don't have any manual with my machine and the woman I bought it from doesn't know anything. I've been trying to google, but what I've seen so far sounds like others may have the same problem.
So, I'm hoping someone out there that really knows what they're doing (meaning any of you! ) can tell me what exactly I need and where to get it! |
According to Clotilde, all Riccar machines are low shank. That means you can buy a generic low shank walking foot and it should fit. If you are still not sure it is a low shank machine, here are instructions for how to figure it out:
http://www.clotilde.com/pages/which_foot.html Not all generic walking feet are well-made. If possible, you should buy locally so you can take it back if it doesn't work well. Check your yellow pages for sewing machine dealers in your area and call to see if they have what you need in stock. If you can't find a walking foot locally, there are many online stores you can order from. Not everyone likes Clotilde, but that is one source. If you Google low shank walking foot, you will find many sources. Allbrands has one that costs twice as much as Clotilde's; could be twice as good, but I just don't know. |
let me see if i have a walking foot..i just put a riccar manual up for sale on my ebay. i may have the foot..i will check for you today. but a sew and vac shop will get you the right foot, if there is one in your area..

I didn't know they still made Riccar machines. I bought a Riccar microwave oven my first 35 years ago and it was at a sewing center. Never looked at the machines. Good brand my oven still works great.

On the side it says Tacony FA693. My husband bought it for me as a surprise for our anniversary one year. I think he felt pity on me using that old smoking White that only sewed forward.
