Should I get this machine?

Singer SES1000 All in One Sew, Embroider and Serge Machine... supposed to be around $1900 but on sale for $800 on HSN.

I would love to have a Serger, and with the price of this sewing machine AND embroidery machine, this seems like a good price but I am timid about making the 'plunge' and getting it.

I don't know about this one but I bought a Singer Quantum from HSN about 10 years ago and it's still sewing like a dream. I've not had one bit of trouble from the machine but I did drop the rotary cutter on the foot control cord and had to replace that. HSH has a great return policy, just save all the boxes and packing until you are sure you want to keep it.

I just did a quick search and found that some love it and some don't. You should do a search for this machine in Google and read some of the comments. Also do a search for it on the Singer site and see what they have to say about it.

Just to let you know it is not a serger machine, it has a serger attatchment that cuts the fabric while you sew, like a serger does. You can buy these attatchments at various places for machines, in case that was a deciding factor in buying this machine.
This machine looks very similar to the Singer Futura models.
Can you go to a store and try one of these out before purchasing? I have 2 Singers and the Futura is a pill to thread... through the tension discs and getting the thread through the eye in the bar in the front.

The "serger" attachment on a sewing machine does not work the same (or as well) as a real serger. That is sort of a "come on" to entice buyers.

Singer has a very mixed reputation nowadays. The high-end Singers often get good reviews; the lower-end Singers not so much. It might be safer to also look at Janome and Kenmore machines with similar features.

Edit: I logged in and read the 4 reviews. All 4 said the embroidery stitches were beautiful and the machine was very easy to use. 3 mentioned that it was difficult to change the needle because of tight space, 2 said it was difficult to thread, 1 was having a lot of problems with the sensors and another mentioned that the sensors were too sensitive.

How Singer markets is strange to me. The upper end Singer sewing machine needles are excellent. The cheaper Singer machine needles are shoddy. There is no way to tell the difference except go to a trustworthy dealer. Same with the Singer machines. Some are made to look the same but are different quality.

Thanks everyone... I did do a search and looked at the machine better and decided I wasn't that interested in alot of the embroidery features, so Ididn't want to pay for that.

I think I'll just look into getting a good serger, even a used one would be ok.

Funny, when I went back to check it at HSN the last time, they were all sold out....that means I wasn't meant to get it anyway, LOL.
