Does anyone know the name of the center block in the top row?

If you go to this site you will see a quilt pattern by Marti Mitchell. I'm wondering what the name of the center block in the top row is? Is there somewhere I can locate just that block pattern?

Thanks so much for your help!

I think it is Snail's Trail. Here is a link to the directions http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpa...ails_trail.htm

Thanks Patty, I looked that up but it just looked different to me. That's why I asked about it. I think the snail is fatter on the Northcott site???LOL (or maybe the colors have me fooled:o)

Try quilterscache.com the block look familiar but I can't remember the name.

Tartan 02-10-2013 07:17 PM

It does look similar to Monkey wrench or Snail Trails but a little different. Time to break out the graph paper unless someone else has seen it.

Here's another view with magnification. Still seems rather distorted, I can't tell what is in the center of that block (located at the bottom center in this picture). However, it seems to me they tapered the ends of the blocks with triangles instead of the traditional square blocks.

Thanks Peggi, It is really unique. I've seen a lot of blocks because I love to look at different kinds of blocks but this one I'd love to see clearer and better. It almost looks like the head of a wrench.

Thanks everyone for your help.

it looks like snail trail to me with an extra triangle added to each side in the sashing. Each quarter of the block is done in a different color.

I think it is a snails tail, with a varied fabric placement. It becomes distorted when I enlarge it, does someone have EQ7 who may be willing to design it. I tried to replicate on my EQ7, but got frustrated (very easy level of frustration here).

I think it is vortex on marti mitchells site

Here's my best shot at it. I drew it as a traditional snail's trail with the four blocks in the center, but I think it may be a print that they are using for the center. If you agree, you'd change the four center blocks to one square.

If you let me know sizes I can put together EQ rotary cutting diagrams for you.

Marti has a free Snail's Tail pattern on her site with two center block options:

Go to google images: search for "snail's trail quilt block" and, I believe, it is image #41 next to an image of a four-way-cat. (Not next to the first closeup of the cat block). :)

If you "flip" the image of the block horizontally that Gladys posted a link to, it would be the same block except for the corners. It is not clear in either image of that quilt that I have seen how the corners are constructed but I would construct them the way that LindaOH laid it out to eliminate seams. I also agree that the center is most likely a single printed square (maybe flowery??)

Gladys 02-11-2013 04:16 PM

Oh wow thanks so much guys. How can I thank you?

Everyone has been so helpful. Lynda in OH I really appreciate the time you took to so that. It helps.

I just cannot see laying out over $20 for one block that I'd like to try just because it's different. I'm gonna play around with this stuff and if I ever make anything decent I'll take a picture but that may be a while.

Thanks again..isn't it an interesting block?

LyndaOH 02-11-2013 06:03 PM

You're welcome, Gladys! It is an interesting block and I think it will be fun to combine it with other blocks and see what secondary designs develop.

Have fun with it!

I agree with Linda about the center. If you look at the other blocks, one of the fabrics has lots of color and movement. I think its used in the 4 patch center and so is harder to see. Neat block...

I agree with the "snails tail" on point with half square triangles on sides.

MargeD 02-12-2013 01:12 PM

It looks like snails trail set on point. The blocks are very pretty.

Jingle 02-12-2013 01:16 PM

It looks to me that the pieces have a curve to them. Doesn't really seem like a snail's trail to me. Maybe I'm not seeing it clearly.

KathyPhillips 02-12-2013 01:55 PM

I am doing the BOM by Marti Mitchell through our LQS. I have patterns 1-6, but do not have that one and don't know if we will get it. I agree that it is a Snail's Trail with 4 extra squares at the corners.

OzarksGma 02-14-2013 12:13 PM

The block is the monkey wrench on point with quarter square triangles on the flats. Very different looking block.
