I LOVE gingham! I am saving a small stockpile of old gingham to someday have enough for a quilt . It also makes really cute flowers on wall hangings.

i made a yellow gingham quilt for my 2nd baby and he carried it everywhere with him. one day he left it in target. even tho' we turned around and went right back to get it someone had either taken it or they'd thrown it away. i'd embroidered cats in each square and he'd loved it near to death. he was heart broken, and so was i. pout. now i feel sad, missing it again, lol. don't you just sometimes wish your babies were babies again, just for a little while? or am i the only silly old woman here?

I like gingham, the very first baby quilts I sewed were from different colors of gingham in pastels shades. I put a ruffle around it, because at the time I did not know how to bind or what binding was. It was a baby quilt, came across it not too long ago. My son who is now getting married said to save it for him as I was expecting him when I sewed it. That is when it came to me, quilting has caught my eye for many years! Yes it was polyester, too, so it slipped and moved so easily, with none of the tools I have now, it was a job for sure.

I have used gingham for cross stitch, chicken scratch and in the 1960s made beautiful smocked pillows with gingham.

I've used gingham for cross-stitch, chicken scratch, and also made many smocked pillows with gingham in the 1960's.

I think it would make a pretty 3D pinwheel quilt other than that I would only use it for my 1yr old grand daughter

Gingham

I made a chicken scratch quilt about 20 years ago. Still looks like new. Use it in the winter in Texas Oct to April

Is gingham readily available in fabric stores? I don't remember seeing any lately.

Gingham quilts

I have made several quilts using the gingham in the Chicken Scratch. They are so pretty but, sort of time consuming since all the work on the block is done by hand. But, they are very, very pretty when finished. Not hard to do either. Soft to use and wash up really well. No problems with any that I have done. Also, have made several pillow/cushions with it in the Chicken Scratch as well to match the quilts. They hold up well too.

I made a quilt out of gingham about 20 years ago & it never frayed. I'd say, go for it. There ain't no quilt police around. LOL
