Does anyone own the Brother CS6000i machine?
For a long time, I've been toying with the idea of purchasing this as my "take to class" machine. It has very good reviews for all the features at a great price. I received two Amazon gift cards last year that total enough to purchase this machine. It is older but would any of you still recommend it? The newer model does not include a walking foot, has some negative reviews for too light weight (machine moves when sewing), and a bit more expensive.

I did a quick search (I put cs6000i in the search box on the upper right) - it came back with 37 pages of topics that mention that machine so there's lots of info on the forum :)

I love mine (I either got it from Ebay or Shopgoodwill cheap because it had an error code they couldn't figure out... the most common error code is E1 if you try to sew with the presser foot up... easy fix! put the foot down) I take mine to retreat, and it doesn't move around when I sew. I am a very happy camper!

I have the Brother XM2701 which I bought to take on a trip to TN last Fall. I love it. I've used it to piece, quilt (free motion and walking foot), and just do general sewing on. The Brother CS6000i looks great too. I love how lightweight my model is. It makes traveling with it easy. I wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere. It looks like the CS6000i is light as well--just 3 lbs more than mine. I think it would be an excellent purchase; especially if you like to use the decorative stitches :)

I looked that one up and it has overwhelmingly good reviews.

I have it, but right now its in Texas with a granddaughter, and I like it, I think even more that the next model up from brother that I have now. its easy to use and really i'd say its fun.

I have a brother sq9060 from Walmart with same features and I love it for classes and travel. I wouldn't hesitate on the 6000 it has been around forever for a reason

I have had the cs6000i for several years and take it to several retreats each year. Several ladies have purchased this machine after having seen how mine just hums along. I have never taken it for maintenance and it is so easy to take apart and clean. I thought maybe it was going to start giving me problems so I looked at the next one up from this but didn't purchase. Found out I was using a wrong bobbin in it. lol I also have a Janomi mechanical and a bigger Brother I purchased because of how well the cs6000i worked but I hardly use it. I just like the little one so much.

I have this machine as my take to sewing group machine and I love it. Last month we did microwave bowl cozies as our project and my machine sewed right through all those thicknesses with no problem at all. I highly recommend this machine.

Several in my sewing group have this machine. I've never heard anyone complain about it.
|
I have one, it is OK for sewing, but remember you get what you pay for. Dances over the table if you sew to fast. Will not sew through heavy folds of material, 6 layers, etc. button hole are not up to par for me. This is my experience with the machine.
|
I sew through many layers also when I make the bowl cozies. Never fails me. If I ever have an issue with a thick seam I put a small ruler under the back of the foot until it clears the hump and the ruler falls out. This keeps the stitches nice and equal

I've had this machine for about a year. I tried it at our library makerspace (they have about 5 of them) and loved it. I have a vintage machine that only had a straight stitch and with a left-homing needle so I wanted a back up. Now it is my favorite machine. It has traveled with me and it packs up easily. There are also videos on youtube for every aspect of this machine in case you need to troubleshoot.

I've had mine for 2 years and it is an awesome machine. I would buy it again.

I bought this machine on recommendation from a quilting friend. She loves hers and I love mine. Have had no problems. I bought this because it is lightweight and am truly enjoying working with it. Machine repairs and cleaning around here run $100 to $150. I figure that I can buy another of these machines for the price of repairs.

I had one & liked it very much but sold to a friend & she loved it and this was a couple years ago, she still uses this with no problem.. I do have other machines like 301's & featherweight that I use a lot.

I have had one for about 10 yrs. I bought it to take to classes because it is so lightweight. Its a great little machine for the price. My daughter liked mine so well she bought one. I have had no issues with mine.

I have one and still use it when my bigger machine is in use! I’ve had it for years.. it was my first machine! My hubby bought it at Walmart so I could make him room darkening curtains! I highly recommend it!

I have a Brother CS6000I and love it...take it to class....even bought my granddaughter one. The only downside to me is that the automatic threader is a little tricky.
|
My daughters got me one for Christmas. I have been using the low-end Brother JX2517. Good machine, but no bells or whistles. I've worked on piecing 2 different tops. Really like how the machine works and would recommend it.
|
I bought one in 2006. It came with a variety of feet, a walking foot and a quilting table. I keep it in a tote for classes. It is an excellent machine. Sturdy, lightweight and portable. Have never had a problem with it "walking" because it was too light. You can't go wrong with this machine. There's a reason it's been around a while and still selling well at a great price. Good luck.

I have the SQ9000 and i love it. My DD and a DGD have the one that came out two years later but is almost the same as mine and they love them. DGD is having so much fun learning to make some of her own dresses. She is 18 and I am so proud of her learning to sew.

I had one & loved it, used it at classes & Stitch Camps, always performed well. I took it to a family reunion in case anyone needed clothing repairs, my oldest granddaughter also loved it so it went home with her. Mine is about 10 years old & still going strong.
As for bouncing around it depends on what type of table it is on, just put a piece of rubberized shelf lining or an inexpensive yoga mat cut into rectangles for machines to sit on, cuts down on noise & bouncing, especially on plastic tables that are in most community centers used for retreats. |
I paid $99 for mine on Amazon. Great little machine for classes. Lightweight.
