I'm thinking about one of these for my youngest daughter and one for myself for piecing blocks while I have my big 4800 set up for meander quilting. Any feedback?

If is the one Hancock's sales, I looked at it at the store and it is kinda dinky. They put it on sale all the time for $39.00. I started to buy one to take for travel but decided my Kenmore Free arm didn't weight that much and I would just use it. Also thought about one for for granddaughter and got to looking and there is one on Sears web page that is just for kids. It really sews. It might be more of what you want for a kid. I may buy that one for my dgd for Christmas. Later she will be getting my first sewing machine that has more power. Don't want her to sew her fingers like grammie has been known to do. :thumbdown: It may be that it sews OK but I really thought it was too light weight. Maybe if you can find one in the store they will let you try it out. Deb

I am getting one of these for my niece for Christmas. I got to see it in the store and use it. Its great for a beginner sewer I think. And the good thing about it is, its so lightweight it can travel very easy.

My beginner quilter friend just bought one and I love it! I got to play with it this weekend. It sews great and is very easy to use. It is lightweight, but lots of machines are made of plastic nowadays.

I liked it for the ease of threading and it was just so darn easy!

This friend is NOT mechanically or spatially inclined (cannot follow directions) and used it just fine.

It does not have a light or an on/off switch. It comes on when plugged in.

I got the janome sew mini for my 5 year old grand daughter. She loves it. It sews great (not like the chain stitch one I got her to start with, that was a waste of money) The machine doesn't sew real fast so it is easy for her to control and is just the right size for her little hands. We just set a light up next to the machine and that works great for her. It really sews great. I plan on taking it with us on vacation next summer so I can do some sewing on my quilt tops when there is time. I have not regretted buying this machine.

I have given several old singers to young children who want to sew. They seem to make them very happy. No accidents kids have faster reflexes...... :D

no light, hmmmmm. That should be ok, I saw these little lights you can stick on things at Home Depot.

Oh how cute she is just adorable are these machines very expenise? i might could get my 9yrs.stepgrandaughter one for Christmas she loves to be around when i'm sewing this little ladies hair is beautiful looks like she got it going on for herself :)

Keep an eye on Hancock's Fabrics sales. Every couple of weeks they've been running them on sale for 39.99. Regular price is 59.99 I think.
