i have this machine with the inspira frame and it does fmq very well. I did have trouble with thread breaking and tension but what I found out is that you MUST oil it frequently!!!!!!!! i had it set up with a five foot frame and it was a great way to learn to fmq. Downsize is the small throat.

I have a V Mega Quilter on a new generation frame, It is a work horse I ntook the feed dog out so I don't have to use the plate. Just love it.

RE: Husqvarna Mega Quilter... It IS made by Janome, and Janome also offers it's version of the Mega Quilter... THEY are identical, except for color. Price each before buying! I have owned the Mega Quilter for 6 years now and I love it! I use it for piecing, quilting on a frame, and even making clothes, although I do have to switch over to my Janome for button holes, etc. I worked for a fabric store for 6 years and can tell you that Janome/Husqvarna/Viking makes for the best investment. Singer is not what it used to be. Several customers I talked with over the years that had the 'high-end' brands of machines, would say how they loved them, then say, "Can't wait until it's out of the repair shop!" I have made over 20 quilts on the Mega Quilter... both piecing and quilting... AND, not as much as a broken needle! Clean and oil it regularly, replace the needle after a couple of quilts and it WILL treat you good!

This is so weird that this thread was revived, today. Yesterday I was looking at this tutorial for half square triangles: http://www.craftsy.com/lecture/Febru...&tutorial=true and I was trying to figure out what machine she was using. I thought I could make out the word "Viking" on the back of the machine and after some internet searching I thought that it must be the Viking Mega Quilter.

It looks like a no-nonsense type of sewing machine. Does anyone know if there is a computer, somewhere inside of it, that would be expensive to get repaired if needed?

I have used the mega quilter with the inspira frame and it worked well for FMQ. I think it would also work well without the frame for quilting or piecing. i too have since bought a long arm so do not use my mega quilter any more. i have found it needed oiling FREQUENTLY!!!!!

That is a great deal on the mega quilter. Yes, it does FMQ, it comes with the foot and you are lucky to get the walking foot because it's over 100 to get separtely. It's a great machine, it goes really fast but has great speen control so mine is always set on super slow. It isn't finicky on thread but I use Aurifil as the viking rep said it likes it best and so do I since it's low lint. I recently bought a Ruby and could have traded my Mega quilter in but wanted to keep it; just wasnt worth it to get rid of it. You'll be very happy with it. You do have to oil it with each use but other than that you are good to go.

try the aurifil thread; it works great. I also heard that sometimes if you take the thread and put it on a stand behind the machine it makes a difference; according to leah day and she's great at FMQ
