Does anyone recognize this block pattern?

I remember seeing a quilt made up of various brightly coloured blocks with this design and separated by sashing. They looked like floating stars. I drew out the block on graph paper quite a while ago, lost it in the bowels of my sewing room, found it again just last week, and made a scrappy sample. I have searched and searched the internet but cannot find any info on it. It uses the tri-recs ruler to make the star and the center is a snowball block. I really hope someone recognizes it and can give it a name.

totally cute, the first time I've seen tri-recs I wouldn't mind doing :)

I have not seen this block before. But I love it

I don't have a name and I have never seen this block before but I sure do love your sample. You go girl and make a lot of these blocks and what a great scrappy it would make.

Sadly although I own the ruler I don't own your fabrics otherwise I surely would make a whole quilt using that block. I hope you do make a large quilt and show it to the rest of us!

If anyone wants to try this block, the secret to getting those pesky points to match is to iron the tri recs seams to the inside on one square and to the outside on the other. Then they nest rather nicely together. I also learned thru trial and error, to oversize my tri recs by about an eighth of an inch and trim after pressing. I sure wish I could remember where I saw the pattern.

Re ally pretty block

It's look like the Ohio Star with the center block snowballed.

wesing 03-15-2018 05:42 PM

I've never seen the star before but I really like. Maybe we should call it Ginger's Star? Another option to those triangles is a rectangular hourglass. That would eliminate some of the seams.

Really cool block......it's pictured and mentioned on the last post of the below thread but the pattern name is unknown. Maybe you can PM her...

I really like it, too! Many of you have block drawing programs. Anyone offering to draw it up and post it for the rest of us (with the blessings of GingerK, of course)?

Quite a compliment to you, GingerK!

**After looking at the Ohio Star pattern, I agree with it being an Ohio Star with different center. Thanks for whomever posted that!

This is as close as I have found. I think it's called Taffy, the first link states if was from Jaybird Quilts. The second link is another version:

Your block looks great!

I contacted Quilterchibb who posted on the thread Teen found and she also does not remember where she saw the original. If anyone wants the measurements for a 12 1/2 inch block I can certainly do that. It will take a couple of days but look for it in 'tutorials'.

Kitsie 03-16-2018 08:50 AM

I thought so, too, but it isn't. Ohio Star uses Quarter Square Triangle blocks and these are not. I will draw it up on graph paper for myself.

wesing 03-16-2018 10:50 AM

This would be made with eight TIS units at 3.5” unfinished (four matched pairs in this example), one snowball block in the center at 6.5” unfinished, and four plain squares at 3.5” unfinished. You could use a number of methods for the TIS units; my choice would be the V-Block ruler by Deb Tucker.

It reminded me of the crown of thorns variation.

I took a little time this afternoon and wrote out the directions. You can find them in Tutorials. I would love to see what your blocks look like.

Teen 03-16-2018 05:55 PM

Thank you, Ginger! So sweet of you

When I went to tutorials, I could not find your post, Sure would love to make this block

AnnT 03-17-2018 06:38 AM

I really like your block. I'll be looking for your tutorial!

mindless 03-17-2018 09:08 AM

Really like your block too.
I started hunting for it here:
https://myessentialpassions.com/quil...uilt-blocks-a/
but I didn't get too far. There are a lot of blocks here, and many blocks have more than one name.
Good luck.
:)

that is an old pattern from a 1980's book I have it someplace but do not know where and cannot remember the name but know we made cardboard templates back then to make it I think I still have those someplace

linmid 03-17-2018 12:50 PM

It looks an awful lot like Starry Web on
