Does anyone recognize this block?

A friend made this block several years ago and can't remember how it is put together. She has fabric to make more, but she's stumped as to how she put it together. If anyone recognizes this block and knows how it is made, please let me know so I can pass on the information.

Blessings!
Grace

Unfolding Star - adapted from a Nancy Cabot design and called Waltzing Matilda in Judy Martin's Ultimate Book of Quilt Block patterns the triangles revolve around a center octagon.

I have also also seen this without the small inner triangles, which allows for the center octagon to be larger.

I forgot to add, it is made with partial-seam piecing.
Sew the first triangle to the octagon with a partial seam. Working in a counterclockwise order, sew the remaining 7 triangles to the center, then complete your first seam. Then repeat with outer star points (each one first joined to a white quarter-square triangle).

I think this is the same block, just cut slightly different.

it was used in a quilt alon on the My Quilt Place forum recently. it is a difficult block comprised of almost all set in seams. but the resulting blocks completed by members of the quilt along are stunning!! so ...i got the patterns too!

I made this block from a pattern called "Stars on Parade".

Interesting on how the same block can have so many different names. Couldn't find it on Blockbase.

Spinning Star is what I know it as, but other than that I'm no help.

Gracie - as others have said it is made with partial seams. THere are many YouTubes and tips on line. Here is Jinny Beyers link:

This block is in the Judy Martin Stars and Strips "add on" for EQ and in that program the name is "Building Block". If your friend wishes either the rotary cutting directions or templates for a particular size, please PM me. I would be happy to do that.

it is a modern block design. blockbase was done in 80's before this block was designed.

I made a quilt with this...from an older book, I think Love of Quilts. It was Oriental Star or Star of the Orient. Even though I was a very inexperienced quilter, and it was all from templates, and had rounds around it like a pineapple quilt block. Glad today's patterns are much more quilter friendly!! Good luck with it...

Maryellen2U, I think my friend would love to have the instructions for this block. She couldn't find any paperwork with her fabrics. Please contact me when you have time. Thanks!

She couldn't believe that I got so many responses so quickly to my post. You all are the best, and I thank you!!!
