Does Anyone Remember This Quilt?
1 Attachment(s)
Someone here posted their lovely quilt and I failed to mark the thread apparently as I cannot find the original thread. The poster gave general directions on how to replicate her quilt. I would really like to make a quick quilt, as I've been working on a complicated quilt and I need something less so.

I think she called them positive/negative quilts?

Hi Onalee,
I think that's a jelly roll quilt. All the strips are 2 1/2" wide. I believe the centers and the long sides are 6 1/2" in length as well as the pieces on each end are also 6 1/2". Here's an image of it from EQ: |
Linda, this is how I was thinking of how to explain it. It's amazing how much my geometric visual skills have improved since I started quilting!
Much of this quilt can be strip pieced, too, which makes it more inviting to make in my mind. |
This looks like a very pretty quilt pattern. Doesn't look too hard either.
|
I really like this, particularly in the soft colors. But how do you line up the rows without seams to match? I am envisioning this coming out very strangely (at my house).

This looks like my quilt in progress Mine is using a jelly roll (2 1/2" strips WOF). Here is how I cut and assembled it
and this is how I put then together When arranged this way - two rectangles sewn tog are 12 1/2" unfinished or 12" finished. Hope this helps. |
No, no,not having seams to match should make it very easy. Go for it.

I'd suggest making up and down columns then when putting them together, stagger the columns so the BLOCK seams hit half way on the next blocks. Probably have to measure and mark the half way point a time or two

The EQ software amazes me, however I guess I don't want or need to learn a new thing, I struggle with quilting and at my age I guess, I don't need anymore struggles. :0) Thanks so much Lady!!! |

Thanks so very, very much. |

you can see how the quilt was made. Long flower pieces on either side of the green strip then pieces on top and bottom of that rail fence type block. Quite simple. I'm guessing the strips finish at 2" by 6". But could be scaled down or enlarged quite easily
True to the awesomeness of this forum not only just someone but several someone's including you were kind enough to take time to help me out. Thank-you GrannieAnnie for jumping in and helping this pattern 'dependent' person. |
Thanks for posting this--I was looking for a simple pattern for a couple of charity quilts!!

Here's an image of it from EQ: That's what I also come up with. I used the "high-tech method" of measuring the pieces on my computer screen to get the (approximate) ratios of the pieces. The cross pieces seemed to be the same length as the long pieces and three long pieces seemed to be the width of the cross pieces. So the finished sizes of the cut pieces could be: 2 x 6 (cut size: 2-1/2 x 6-1/2) - With the popularity of the jelly rolls (2-1/2 inch strip packs), this would seem to be a likely choice for the size. There are other possibilities, all using the same ratios: Finished size of piece: 1 x 3 (cut size: 1-1/2 x 3-1/2) Finished size of piece: 1-1/2 x 4-1/2 (cut size: 2 x 5) Finished size of piece: 2-1/2 x 7-1/2 (cut size: 3 x 8) Finished size of piece: 3 x 9 (cut size: 3-1/2 x 9-1/2) |
If you are doing a scrappy quilt, cutting all the strips individually is great. But you could also make this quilt in strips...sew three strips together for the middle, cut them to size, and sew on the end pieces. More of your blocks will be the same, but it would go faster.

I saw a kit on my Keepsake quilting gmail this morning called garden walk that looks just like it. They have it on sale today.

That's my neighbours quilt with my quilting!!
It is very simple. All the fabric is cut into 2.5 inch strips by 6.5 inches. I can't give you the ratio but I think I remember the center strip needs at least 2.5 yards to make a decent size quilt. Cut the centers to size only and leave the other fabric in strips. As you sew the fabric to the center piece you trim each out piece to length. In fact you can strip piece this as a continuous line cutting it apart at the end. After the two sides are sewn attach top and bottom. Hope that helps. |
Very pretty quilt design.

Such an informative thread! Great quilt idea. Thank you quilters.

Really sweet quilt and a great use for jelly rolls.

Hello MaryKay ~ I knew I had seen it on the board somewhere and I was hoping that whoever had posted it would see this post. Again, to my eye lovely colorway and of course beautiful quilting! Thank-you for the insight of sewing in strips, of course that would make this an even easier quilt to make! |
Does anyone remember the name of this quilt?
|
My pleasure, Onalee!

Whoops. The pattern looks like Epary's quilt design.

MSQC has a tutorial on making this quilt on YouTube. I think thy called it a Keynote Quilt. It's made using jelly rolls.
