Hi...this is a really big favour to ask..... I live in the UK and back in 2009 whilst on holiday in Europe I bought a magazine called Quilt Mania Hors-Serle Enfants 2009.....because it had two beautiful childrens applique quilt in it that I would love to make.
The only problem is,it is a french publication and therefore all the instructions are in french.
I know a very small amount from being taught many years ago in school and I have tried with dictionaries etc but cannot translate it.
Would anyone be kind enough to translate the instructions for me, the instructions are very short, just a couple of paragraphs really.......I would be more than happy to pay or send fabric if preferred as I know this is a big favour to ask...thank you

I lived in France for 6 years and am fairly fluent... I also used to subscribe to Quiltmania so I've possibly got the edition you refer to. I'll gladly translate the instructions for you - and you're only up the road from me in 'Brizzle'! :mrgreen: :-D

EDIT: Just been through all my magazines and although I have two Hors Series from 2009, I don't have (or can't find!) the children's one but if you can scan and email me the text, I can translate it no probs! :-D

You also could put it in Google translator and that should work

Basics work in Google translator. I speak french fluently and needed help with spelling. After entering words into google translation the results were total opposite of what I meant to say! Could have been most embarrassing! since you have someone that can translate, it's the safest and best route...

Thanks to everyone who replied.....I have now found someone who will translate it for me.....cannot believe the kindness of everyone....have had this book 2 years trying to translate it......mention it on the board and within an hour have offers of help......thanks again

It's very risque to use online translators (not just google)at the best of times. I sure wouldn't go there for something such as this!

yes i also paint rocks amongst other things lol....at this time i`m into plants and flowers....i don`t have a green thumb so i paint them lol

They look really nice. I have one small rock, more pebble that was hand painted with a very tiny scene on it. Love the work and envious of the person who did it.

there is a site called Translate.. I think on Google and you just tell it what you want liek from french to english and then type in what you want translated.. not sure if you could copy and paste and the print it out or not,

If you type it into a Microsoft Word document, there is a section under the 'review' tab that will translate the document for you.

This board is amazing for making new friends as well as for the incredible depth of knowledge everyone has here!

I'll be happy to do the translation for you, French is my mother tongue so it should be an easy task for me, Just PM me your pattern, I am used to work in both languages, I also open this offer to anyone that struggle to convert a pattern from English to French.

I speak french and would be happy to help you. I have never learned about measurements or sewing shop talk, but there must be a french dictionary for anything I miss.

there are several sites on the internet that will translate from any language to any language....just google..

I do not recommend using the translator installed in your computer, They do a poor job,they use any word . In Canada we have a law that obligates the seller to advertise in both languages French and Rnglish. I always read he English instructions and have a good laugh or get pretty mad at the French one.They do not make sense. I give you a two words example ''The singer's fans'' was translated by '' Les parapluies du chanteur'' literally meaning '' The singer's umbrella,

The fault with online translations is they cannot accurately handle idioms and true meanings are lost because of that. Imagine the literal translation of such things as 'putting all your ducks in a row', 'hit the books' or 'pig out'. :roll:

Hi , not sure if you were talking to me?? if so i live in Kapuskasing..lol all the way north....i do paint lots of rocks animals, flowers, little cottages etc.......have sold quite a few...but quilting takes up most of my time now...

the only problem with the translation sites is thy translate word for word and sometimes the meaning gets lost...thy are good if no other resource is available....

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that you live where I wish I did. I have wanted to move to the English countryside since I was 15 years old. I just feel this very strong pull to the place. Must have lived there in a previous life!

I have really bad luck with Babelfish. I use it frequently to translate stuff from my Japanese friends in Facebook and it usually turns out to be just gobbledygook! It's very disappointing as I thought Babelfish was supposed to be a good translator.

didn't know there were any other board members living quite so close to me!

Why don't you go to the local high school and ask the French teacher if she/he would translate it for you. You can always make a wall quilt for the class as a "thank you."

There is a website called freetranslations.com. You can google it. Just scan, cut and paste the directions and it will translate from French to English for you! Free! Good luck.
