I am in a yahoo group that started talking about using the Cricut for cutting out shapes to use for appliqueing on our quilts and it started out as an interesting topic and some good info shared but then they stopped all discussion on the subject on that board as it is a board for paperpiecing. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has used the Cricut machine for cutting fabric to use in making a quilt or table runners...etc? I have a Cricut and just never thought about using it for fabric. I am real interested in learning more about this. Anyone out there doing this yet?

This is a common practice on her yahoo board. I was finding it interesting as well.

I respect that it was off topic for that board. So thought it was easy enough to just ask here as we can talk about the price of butter if we want to....lol. Have done a search on the topic here and found some good info but seems as though it has been about a year since the topic was brought up so wondering if any one has anything more to add. I tried to email the lady off list that was giving advice on the other board but it would not let me have all her email address. Hoping she will email me with some more advice on using the Cricut for making applique. I have some heat n bond but not sure I have the right kind. I think it is the light. Am looking forward to trying this with my Cricut.

I use my cricut to cut letters for my quilts. It cuts fabric

I am too anal to use my Cricut for fabric -- it has always pulled a little and left ragged edges that I don't like. My friend, on the other hand, swears by it and has used it for letters, etc. I have used the cutouts as patterns for appliques, though.

The company says you can use it for fabric. Give it a try. I'm sure some designs work better for applique than others.
