Does anyone use an IPAD for android tablet for quilting?
 

I am considering getting one to keep track of quilting patterns and requirements. I think it would be nice to take to the LQS and when I see sales I will have the patterns with me. Does anyone currently use one for this purpose? If you do how do you keep track of them on the Ipad or tablet? I am unsure how this can be done. Thanks for your help in advance.

I read/post forums and online quilt magazines with iPad. You can get to files you've created if you saved them to Evernote on the Internet but you'd have to have Internet service in the quilt store. iPad runs apps but I'm not aware of one for creating quilt designs like Electric Quilt. You can get calculator apps though. And the notepad is great! Will be interesting to hear from others. I LOVE my iPad. Just don't want you to be disappointed if it doesn't do what you think it can. It's not a small laptop.

I use the Goodreader app to store PDFs ....that might work for you.(iPad)

We use our phones, both Android & iPhones in the family, all the time for shopping. Grocery lists, hardware & tool supply lists with pictures, texting whomever is out to pickup milk & bread on the way home, price comparisons, even my Joann's coupons are on my phone. I tested a tablet for my employer for 3 months and even though it did have cellular internet on it, I was constantly frustrated with getting it to do what I wanted it to do and it doesn't fit in my pocket like the phone. My phone is much more responsive than the tablet & maintains a better connection. The tablet was constantly dropping connection and I'll be d@mned if I'm going to drive around looking for a wi-fi connection when I pay AT&T such a ridiculous amount for data on my cell phone!

Yes! I have an iPad and iPhone, and both have my quilting mags I subscribe to as well as about 2 dozen patterns (and counting!). The nice thing about having both is that if I forget my iPad, or if DH is using it, I have my iPhone with me all the time, which I synced to my iPad through the Cloud (like a big filing system in cyberspace), giving me the ability to always have my mags, patterns, and access to the internet. So now any of our Apple devices can access everything.

This doesn't exactly address your question but it's iPad related. The blog Lily's Quilts has a tutorial on using the app Touchdraw to draw quilt blocks and experiment with arrangements.

What about printing out patterns?
I just bought a Kindle Fire and dont know what all I can do with it.
So far Im disapointed about the price of books. I can get used books thru Abes Books much cheaper than downloading prices. Ive got to be frugal about everything except quilting as its addictive and cant help myself.

I use PDF reader pro to store patterns on my iPad. Also there are several apps that create pages from websites, which is nice for patterns and instructions as well. I love my ipad!

I received a Kindle Fire for christmas. I don't buy books for it - I read way too much for that (15- or 20 books a month). I am an avid reader and use the library extensively. However, I have managed to download about 15 free books on my Kindle. I get ideas from Bonnie Hunter's quiltville blog. Usually they are only free for a limited time. I currently only use my Kindle as a back up to the library books. If I am out of books to read and the library is closed, I will use the Kindle. Or if I am going to an event where I know there will be a lot of waiting (track meets) I will take the Kindle since I have several books on there that I haven't read.

Don't know that you can save your files to and IPad unless you up load them from a computer. Unless you have access to the internet when in a store you can't view as a PDF and I don't know of anyway to print but I'm sure when I write this someone more "in the know" will suggest an APP that will allow you to do so. I would like to be able to print out things I find on the internet and not have to run to the computer and sometime forget where I saw the information.a
