Does monofilament
 

thread last as long as regular cotton or cotton/polyester thread? Does the knots at the end come out, when you use it for quilting? I have been hesitant to use it on my quilts.

Most of the instructors on craftsy that use it say they have manyquilts that are old that have no issues with the monofilament, I think there was more concern with the older stuff kind of how poly used to be bad for quilts but now is fine to use

I use Poly monofilament and havr not had any issues with it.

The quilt I made my oldest son in 2004 was quilted with it, still holding up just fine.

There are two kinds of monofilament thread...nylon and polyester. Some resources that may help you decide if, or which, to use.

I used it in the 90s and didn't like it back then. I am concern that in time it will cut thru the cotton fabric. Old habits are hard to break.

I went to a class using the monofilament thread. Everyone in the class had to do a test on the thread of snapping the thread between hands.

if it snapped quickly we were told it was old and no good.

do you mean I can stop doing this and use any mono thread I have left.

If it is getting old so you can't use it to sew with it does that mean that you shouldn't use mono on a quilt that you may want to last more than 30 years or so? I would expect most quilts would last 30 years with regular thread. It seems that if it gets old on the spool it would get old in a quilt and snap too. Just wondering. I don't want to use it if we can't prove it will last a bit. Would hate to make a quilt and have all that mono break.
