Does not sewing make you crabby?
 

I've felt totally off the last few days and thought it was mainly due to an OD of choc chip ice cream. For about 15 mins before I left for work this morning I sewed two triangle blocks- 15 mins - and after I felt so relaxed and at peace. I realized I hadn't sewn since Sunday, and I wondered if that was another reason why I've been feeling so off.

Do you ever feel sort of lost or at odds with yourself if you take a few days off sewing?

Not especially. I've been in kind of a slump the last couple of years, so I only sew when I feel like it, and that is enjoyable.

Yes, I do. I normally quilt a little bit each day. Been off since I have been trying to get my quilting studio painted. And I know that I am having off days until I can get back to quilting.

I usually find it relaxing. But I think it depends upon what else I have going on. If I have lots of other activities scheduled that have to be done first I can get a little frustrated with trying to get everything done and still fit in enough quilting time. Although I am retired I sometimes have a problem over-committing myself.

I suffer from the same "ailment" as Tartan. I see my sewing room (The Bat Cave) as my safe haven--away from the phone, DH, dog, neighbors, etc. To quote Simon & Garfunkle I'm "hiding in my room, safe within my womb". Even if it's just 15 minutes of cutting or folding fabric, I feel at peace.

I get even crabbier when I have to go to town every day! Course that means I don't get to sew those days so it is a double whammy. I know that many people watch movies or listen to books on tape while sewing -- I get too involved with my sewing to pay attention to movies or books.

Yes. Absolutely, totally, without a doubt, I have witnesses, yes.

Totally me, we were out of town for two weeks and when we got back had so much to do around the house and yard that I've not had time for my sewing. What I've done is have a scrap of fabric setting next to my machine I'll pick it up and sew a couple of lines and then go on about my work. That really sounds crazy but it works for me. Think maybe I need to see a shrink.

I don't need to sew daily, but I really depend on weekend sewing to de-stress me, and I often do sew on work days too. It's the worst when I've been really inspired by something but for whatever reason I can't get into the sewing room to try it out (like on a trip away from home). I do a lot of frustrated sketching in those cases, LOL.

Recently I moved my sewing room from upstairs to downstairs as part of a larger partial remodel of the house, and it was inoperable for nearly a month. I definitely felt off-kilter. Sitting down at my machine for the first time in weeks, I had to actually stop for a moment while I was threading the machine and figure out which way the bobbin goes. That little piece of information got lost in the move, apparently!
