does this work?

At work we give presents to needy families at christmas. This year I have 21 month old who wanted a teddy bear.... I have this boyd's bears fabric so I thought why not make a teddy bear quilt to go with the teddy bear???????? :D
I want to use fabric that I have to use up stash, and I am wondering about this brown flannel The color goes well with the boyds bears fabric I am just wondering about the plaid What do you guys think? I am thinking just simple alternating squares because we don't have a ton of time before the gifts need to be turned in.... unless you guys have a simple pattern suggestion??? :p |
I think that's a perfect combination for a boy.

There is a pattern which has the backing become the border/ binding. Sorry the actual name escapes me right now but there is/are you-tune videos to show how to do it. I think using the plaid as the back would be wonderful. Quick, easy, wonderful!!!!
|
Oh yes, that absolutely works!

I would just use the birthing (envelope method) for a small teddy bear blanket with the purple as the front and the plaid as a back. The fabrics go together perfectly, and my experience with Project Linus tells me that the cute fabric print will be just as attractive to a little child as one that is pieced.

Ditto .... whole cloth for each on front and back.
IMHO the plaid just does not want to be cut up and would show so nicely as the backing. Of course ... that is a biiiiiig iffffff you have enough! :) |
The bear fabric is as cute as can be, but I'm not sure I'd put lavender in a quilt for a boy.
|
Absolutely perfect! I often give a stuffed animal to kid's along with the quilt.
|
thanks everyone.. I did think about whole cloth... and honestly its going to be for a little girl. The lavender will work for the little girl. I have some lavender satin that I am going to use as a ruffle all around to girl it up more :)
I don't know what I will use as the backing if I don't use the flannel for the backing.... time to go back in the stash |
Lots of boys like purple, so I can't see why lavendar would not work for a boy. The brown plaid flannel will 'man' it up, too.

Even a whole cloth one would be great for the little girl. The ruffle on the edges will be fun too! :)
|
I think that would be very compatible together. Please share a picture when you finish.

I think that anything you give to this family will be treasured. And the fact that it is handmade is just extra special. I work with a battered women's shelter and some of these kids rarely have received a gift, much less something made with love. Bless you.

thanks everyone.... we will see how things end up :)
oh yes you know that I will show and tell ha ha |

Why not the plaid?
Nothing wrong with that for a girl, especially coordinating with those cute bears! I agree. The brown plaid flannel will be perfect as a backing for the purple bear fabric, I think. Don't go back to the stash; use what you first thought of! |
Warm Wishes pattern would work up fast. But I wouldn't cut up the plaid. I think the cute print needs to play alone or with solid/tone one tone blenders or tiny scale print in one of the bow colors. I love the plaid for backing and your idea for purple satin ruffle.

Yes! perfect choice, boy or girl.

Thank you for sharing your love for others! I know this gift will be much loved by the recipient.

I really like the brown plaid for the back. Nice to have a side that is not super girly??
I personally have brown as one of my favorite colors. |
I say yes, it will be perfect!
