What a lot of lucky ladies here! My DH does absolutely nothing around the house. But I can't complain. He never tells me no to anything I want.
|
Not at all. He has no interest in it and that's fine with me. He has his RC planes, boats, jet skis, trains, cars, trucks, jets, helicopters, hovercraft, swamp buggies, etc. and I'm amazed by what he can do with them. He's amazed at what I can do with a sewing machine and some fabric. It works out good for us that way.

No, he doesn't sew or quilt, but he loves that I do and tells people about my quilts sometimes more than I want him to. Frankly, I think once he learned how I can mix up colors and make them look good, he got over his aversion to anything but white paint on the walls, and he's pretty proud of that! And he has no problem with me upgrading machines -- he has a lot more invested in camera gear and cars so we just don't talk much about cost. Our hobbies are sanity savers.

I am still looking for a girlfriend who can quilt better than me.
And yes I cook, clean, replace the engine in the van, rebuild transmissions, have a woodshop, a darkroom, garden, bike, hike, watch sports, and all those things that get you through life as a single man and father. tim in san jose |
You rock Tim!!!!

No, but my husband helps me with the design. He is very good at that
|
My Husband can sew He is a retired sewing machine mechanic and the key word here is retired he will fix something for me but I hear about it for a WHILE . He use to love to sew and fix my machines but now all he want to do is fish and play with our 17 month old great grandson
|
I taught my husband to sew on a button a number of years ago. He is very artistic and loves Xmas, so he started making ornaments of his own design from felt, beads and embroidery floss. Then he would do simple mending tasks by hand for his clients at work, mending little rips in seams or ripped out pockets, etc.
Last fall he started looking at sewing machines. He studied my Husqvarna and asked me all about the embroidery stitches and designs, but I really don't do that--I piece and FMQ some. I got a little nervous when he was using my machine. One day he did something funky and thought he had broken it and ran it out to the technician to get it fixed before I got home (whew!). So he bought a Husqvarna Designer I (used) and started doing embroidery. Before he bought his machine he researched all the different brands on the Internet. He really wanted a Pfaff, but we don't have a local dealer. We had a couple of older machines that needed some work and he couldn't resist opening them up to see how they work, etc. Long story short--he's now taking a course in basic sewing machine repair and I'm so excited for him, because he can get some of his questions answered (hopefully) that he's always asking me! He's always drawn quilt patterns, but he doesn't ever piece them. He's always been very creative, drawing, designing, manipulating photos in neat ways, etc. He is a gem (and I'm keeping him)! |
No, but he is an increadible woodworker. He make beautiful furniture and awesome quilt racks!
|
He doesn't sew but he's pretty handy with a pair of pliers and a needle when I'm trying to hand tie 3 layers or he's great with coming to my rescue when I need something made to help me out. He's my best critic and motivator.
|
Marsye, do you rent him out????
|
No hubby but when I did have one he thought it was stupid. No one else in my family is the least bit interested in sewing anything. If I show my daughter anything new she gets that blank look in her eye. lol How wonderful it is that so many have the support of their families
|
The hubster does not sew but he is great at design...When I am stuck on a quilt project he will come in and say "Move that piece here, that one there" And it is always terrific!
And he never complains when the mystery packages from Hancocks or Thousand of Bolts show up....Good hubster!!!! Ellen |

When my husband and I got married and combined our households, he got absolutly giddy when he started unpacking my 6 sewing machines and all the other sewing related items. Yes, I gave him one of the machines, and made up a real nice sewing kit including a rotery cutter, mat and a lesson on rotery cutter saftey. (which he isnt so good at). Long story short, he made my wedding dress. And made it from BDU blouses. (Army shirts). The day before the wedding I had a final fitting and he scrutinized the dress then to my shock, took the scissors and made a slash at the neckline. I gasped! He didn't like the way it looked, so he added yoyo's. It was great. Still not sure if I like 'sharing' my sewing stuff. Kinda like having a sister...
|
Now that is a really cool story? one question Where did you get married?
|
Silly girl! In Hancock Fabric store where I work! It was great.
more pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/buffmama/ It was our second marriage each so no need for all that fluff of a traditional wedding. |

that should work. |
He quilts the tops for me, helps me pick fabric/patterns, and cuts it for me.

I'm a husband, and a quilter. My wife started quilting about 15 years ago and I started about 15 MONTHS ago. Now, I'm teaching her how to paper piece with freezer paper and soon I will be teaching her applique.
I drive semi's, cook as well if not better that she does ( certain things I cook better but she kills me at other recipes)..I fix lawn mowers, I'm also a Master Locksmith. I'm old and overweight and she loves me to death... Oh! and we have matching, twin Janome 6600's. |

I can't get my hubby near needle and thread unless it is picking it up off the carpet so ds/dd doesn't eat it or crawl/step on it. He also gets mad at me when I drop my pins. I wish my hubby was more supportive of me finding a hobby. I tolerate and try to support him in his hobby of computer gaming.
I think that when the kids are grown and gone I will be in my sewing room sewing(because by then I will have a room to sew in hopefully) and he will be on the computer where ever it is playing his games. only seeing each at bed or at meals. hehe unless I can convert him to sewing. I wont hold my breath though. |
no way and doesn't want to talk about it. my biggest fan is my baby g-son he loves all the petty quilts i make and wants to take tham all home. lol :D
|
That is so neat. How great to have a partner that likes the same things you do.
(Saw your chi's cute. Interesting little dogs. I have 2 I am fostering now. Never had them as fosters before and the only dog that bit me in 6 years was a chi. lol ) |
NOT AT THIS TIME. HE HAS BOUGHT THE MATERIAL TO MAKE
A QUILT BUT HASN'T STARTED. MY BROTHER IN LAW MAKES QUILTS ALL THE TIME AND EVEN TEACHS OTHER PEOPLE TO MAKE THEM. |
My hubby is very supportive. Actually likes to shop in quilt stores and pick out fabrics for my next projects. He even went so far to attend a few classes with me only to find out he didn't like the sewing part. He will cut out blocks, patterns and pieces for me when getting ready for craft shows we do together. He does the cooking, laundry and cleaning when I have deadlines. All and all he is a keeper.
|
Where do you guys find these men?? Lol I want one for my daughter. I am way past wanting one for me
|
my DH sews when he has to on "HIS" antique sewing machine. and he always is saying that His machine sews tighter and better then both my antique and my newer machine...all three are singers. I have tried to tell him its all about the tension and width of the stitches, but you cant tell him anything.
Plus, he cant sew a straight line, or cut one for that matter, to save his life, and he knows it. so usually i am the one who sews stuff up, but he tries :-D :D |
I can only wish
|
Mine doesn't quilt, he carves. He does small things and also chainsaw carves. He sells a lot of his carvings. I wish people were willing to pay what quilts were worth.
|
Heck no! I doubt if he would ever want to. I would give him my machine if he'd buy me a new one. He'd get frustrated so fast....I'd end up with both machines! lol
|
My husband doesn't sew or quilt; however he used a surger once while taking Home Ec in middle school and made a wind sock.. so he has the 'I've used a surger' thing on me; I've never used one and I someday want one.
He will go into fabric shops with me and will give opinions. He helped research sewing machines when I replaced the clunker brother I bought for 15 bucks off of eBay (local pickup thankfully) and even asked questions about the machine that I ended up buying to replace it (Babylock Xscape) that I didn't think to ask. Mostly though, when I run into the fabric stores -I don't drive so he has to take me everywhere- he'll sit in the car with the girls while I go in and grab whatever I need. They like to run around and touch everything.. so I try to avoid taking them in as much as possible; however he only does this when I know what I need. |
The hubs doesn't sew even tho' he does know how but only with leather for shoes. He used to be a bootmaker in his younger years. He helps me pick out colors, or gives me an opinion on patterns, what works or won't. These later years, he has taken up cooking and has a large collection of cookbooks. Yep, we're round like Hobbits, so he is a very good cook. I clean up after him, that is the deal if he cooks.
|
Lol No he does not he makes brass model railway kits and the odd cup of coffee
|
No he doesn't, but he also is very supportive. He can build anything (he completely rebuilt our home when it burned) but he can't "build" a quilt. He says that is alot different measuring wood, compared to measuring fabric.

He even does house cleaning but he won't cook. He's a keeper.
Well you did ask!!! LMAO! |
NO. He doesn't sew, iron, or shop for fabric. BUT he does encourage me. He searches for a long arm for me from time to time. He saw my first quilt (wall hanging) and asked me to make the twin size one for our grandson! He also suggested I move to the den (my sewing room, not me lol) so I would have more room. I now have part of my work (The mini storage cabinets I make as well as the other non quilted creations I make.
He refuses to even walk into my sewing room for fear of messing something up. He cooks (some) mows the lawn, takes the trash out, helps with dishes, laundry and I"ll keep him! |
My husband passed in 2008 but yes after taking me to fabric stores for years he got interested and bought a secondhand Bernina and a precut quilt kit and made it with prairie points around the edge no less. From then on he designed all his quilts and never used a pattern. I passed his machine on to a friend whose house burned down.
|
My husband doesn't sew but he is very supportive . He must be!!! He has never asked how much fabric I have, how much I spend or how many sewing machines I have!! He actually has a better eye for color than I do so he really comes in handy! Not sure I want to share my stash with ANYONE !!
|
Mine doesn't sew, he does like the fact that I make beautiful quilts. He never says anything when I buy machines or fabrics.
