My daughters both have dogs and hinted they would like a homemade dog bed for xmas--- anyone know of a pattern for one??? Their dogs are a yorkshire terrier- golden retreiver and a bull mastiff. One extreme to another- haha

WOW! I have seen patterns, but don't know if they were large enough for the mastiff LMBO

here you go and you can make it as big as you want and stuff it with fiber fill instead of the insert, you could also get the foam to use for the stuffing! Make it with a cover so you can wash the cover. Have fun!

I think you can use the pattern for a box pillow or a couch cushion (the box type). I would recommend to use a slab of foam rubber and a layer of memory foam. That way your dog will be comfortable and the foam rubber won't break down. Word of warning: It won't be cheap.

I have Greyhounds and use a new baby mattress for the bed and then make a cover for it....much cheaper than the green foam pads from JoAnns!! Plus, the baby mattress is waterproof. Measure all the sides, top and bottom. I use a heavy duck cloth or outdoor canvas fabrics...they wash and dry prettywell. Instead of a zipper, I use the method for a sofa pillow covering.

I recently saw on a blog where a girl is selling her designer dog bets for about $100.00. She took 4 inch foam and made a cover like a sofa cushion using welt cord. Simple. BIG profit margin. We happen to have a larger piece of foam so I am making DDs dog (she is a Boxer) a bed for Christmas.
