Can anyone please explain to me what "lower the dog feet" on the on the sewing machine means?

Thank you, Matucker

It is actually lower the "feed dogs" and it is usually a switch somewhere on your machine...look in your manual...it should tell you how...unless you happen to have a machine that doesn't have that feature.

If you don't have a machine with that feature, you may have a little plate that goes over the feed dogs. If not, cover it with some cardboard that you tape in place.

And those feed dogs we're talking about? They are those little grippers that are right under the needle & presser foot. They come up & pull your fabric under the presser foot as you are sewing. We "lower the feed dogs" when we want to do things like free-motion quilt or embroider & we want to move the fabric ourselves.

Hope that helps!
