Dog Tooth Applique Border- How to Learn?
 

My next project is to make an 1800s reproduction quilt. This particular quilt has a dog tooth applique border, which I have no idea how to make. I have Googled "dog tooth applique" but can't seem to find any instructions.

Does anyone know of any books or online classes that would explain how to do this?

never heard of that before but it looks like small rectangles of two colors. and applique? didn't look like that. perhaps it is something else...

I would paper piece it as a strip and then apply the strip to my border rather than applique it. Helpful hint: If you PP it either starch the bejeepers out of your fabric, sew a stay stitch on either side of it or trim it to size after you remove the papers. I made a border like that on this quilt and it stretched out of shape horribly on me because I cut it to size before removing the papers. I didn't do any of these things and ended up having to remove and reattach as it had stretched so badly out of shape. https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...c-t287411.html

Another thought is you could do inward pointing prairie points and stitch them down.

I prefer the prairie points.

I see how it is done, but I don't see how the inside point could be turned good enough where threads would not show.
If you cut into the fabric for the depth of what looks like the triangle, at the end of the cut would have to be turned under.....don't know how that is done where it wouldn't ravel or threads show......Prairie points for me.

The picture on the top looked like the prairie points were sewn in with the binding, then the points were tacked down later to me.
