Consider donating your unwanted fabrics to your local schools. You know budgets have been slashed . From collage scraps to curtains for dress up to almost anything for high school art. Most teachers will write you a letter for a tax donation.

We don't even have art anymore!

Thanks, thats a great idea!

Yes, that's awful. But they put on plays, make puppets, have clubs that might do Project Linus . When I was teaching art, the District cut art from all 6th graders and gave them double math. So I stayed afterschool for the kids who needed their art.

When I hit a good deal (garage sales, etc.) I donate to our Family Consumer Science (Home Ec) classes. Our kids make a lot of quilts and things for donations so I am glad to help them out with donations of my own. I'm just thrilled that their teacher is teaching them the basics of quilting!

No Home Ec either!
But they just spent 3 million+++ on a new field house and weight room! Don't even have class plays anymore. But I do donate my empty thread spools to the preschool classes. They cut sponges in shapes and glue the shapes to the spools. Make great handles for little hands. |
I was just wondering if I should save the empty spools!

Apparently not so with the ones who spend the money :( |
Another place to donate is to the girl scouts. I have a nephew who has 5 children all under 8 and they have always been willing to take anything for either school projects (either for themselves or for their home room)or for scouting since they have to furnish everything themselves.

I have a neighbor that is a Home Ec teacher and he gave me some fabrics that people donate to him for the school. He doesn't teach sewing because he has no machines. They just teach crafts that can be glued.
