I put my just finished "New I Spy Baby Quilt" on Ebay but it didn't sell and it's gone now. Frankly I am fed up with trying to sell on Ebay. :shock: :thumbdown:

as a veteran EBayer, I will tell you... More and sharper pictures. This is YOUR work, it's done well, be proud of it. Show your potential customer how well you made the quilt. You are not selling a piece of fabric, you are selling something someone wants to wrap their baby up in and keep forever. You can't do that with a fuzzy photo of a quilt hanging on the wall. On the other side... that is not a screaming hot category. Look at your competition. Not many of them have a lot of views either. Fewer still have many or any bids on them. That means put it for long auction times. 7 days minimum. And end the auction on a Sunday evening. Why? I don't know except a lot of EBayers spend their Sundays making bids. *L* Most important, get those photos up. tim in the home of EBay, san jose |
It looks like a wonderful childs quilt to me! I like the bright colors, the variety of fabrics, and the I Spy theme :D
I agree with Tim, a clearer picture would be a good idea. When I buy off of the internet, I want to be able to clearly see what I am interested in. If the picture is blurred, unfortunately, I wonder if something is trying to be hidden. (Sorry, I am sure that is not your intent, but I have had this happen in the past) Make sure that the quilt is hanging very straight and square. You put a lot of time and love into making this, and you want others to see it as a perfect baby quilt for their perfect little one :D Maybe a close up of some of the squares and an explanation of what an I Spy quilt is and the fun you can have playing the game with the child in a doctors waiting room, etc.... Also a picture of the quilt back may help too. I know that since I cannot see it in person, I expect the seller to show me through pictures all of the details. Good Luck on your ebay endeavors! |

You have to make people WANT your quilt. SHow them your backing, your binding, your stitches, several of the adorable novelty prints you used.... Also, you have unused space in your title that could be filled up with search words! You should use words that people search for - Baby, quilt, crib, custom (which means that you made it yourself, on ebay - not that you make it to order), handmade (which includes the sewing machine), OOAK (one of a kind, if it is), boy or girls, toddler... unless the buyers search specifically including the text (and most won't), your quilt won't show up in many searches. ONLY the title is searchable by default. I wouldn't bother with the word "New." It's not one that gets searched. I hope that helps! |
I suggest you do a crop of the picture, get all the extra wall, picture edges should be a bare minimum of the edging so that the quilt stands out. You did a good job of it, I'm sure of that, but I know you from this website.....others won't know that about you.
Take a shot of the quilting, front and back. Get a close up of the block, if you can. There are so many quilts made in other countries for way less monies that we are hampered here in the states. The easier to see your quilt, the more bids, the more bids, the better auction. Just my humble opinion as a quilter and a fabric buyer for myself. Chin up, you'll get there! Hugs, Sharon |

These are all great suggestions, so may I add one more for you to consider? I've found on Ebay that if you have a much lower starting bid, people are more inclined to think they might get a bargain. Once you start bidding, you get caught up in the excitement of the action and spend more. You can set the reserve at any price you want - no one knows what that is unless you choose to tell them...
Also, maybe factor in the cost of shipping in your reserve price, and offer FREE SHIPPING! People love to get something free even if it's really not! Just my two cents worth! (do I hear a bid for three cents?) It is a lovely quilt! |
Great suggestions everyone! I have trouble photographing quilts (and other things) myself! It really takes a bit of practice and patience. Your little photo didn't do your gorgeous quilt justice. I'm sure bidders would have been fighting over that quilt with the right photos and your detailed description. It's really adorable!
Don't give up! Relist with new photos and a longer description. I don't even have little kids, but I'd love to have that quilt! :D |
