Don't try to explain Frixion pens use for quilting.

I woke up early yesterday and decided to drive around town to get out and about for awhile. I saw a Home and Garden show was at the convention center and thought I'd browse there for awhile. I walked by the Staples Office Supply booth and the guy said here take some free highlighters in three different colors. I said sure and when I saw what he was handing out I couldn't believe it. It was FriXion erasable gel pens. I said these are great. I use them in my quilting! He said Really? Well take a lot more. I have cases of theses things to give out. He reached in a box and dumped a handfull of the pens in my bag. I said these cost a lot in the quilt shops. He said they aren't sold in quilt shops. He said why would a quilt shop sell office supplies? I laughed and said well some do. I got red, black and yellow FriXion pens. Enough to share with my guild members. The yellow was the only one labeled highlighter!

What a nice person to give you more pens - I was at the comic book store buying the boards and the cashier was surprised I told him I used it to wrap fabric around. I suggested he go to the local quilt shops and put his card on the bulletin board and also mentioned it to the local quilt shop they should offer the boards or display his cards so people known where to get them. It really is nice when we help each other out.

The Home and Garden Show was one day only. Every town seems to have one of theses shows once a year. The Home Ext office Master Garden program hosts them here. Most business and organizations set up a booth to sell and promote their products. I got a lot of free samples that will be useful in the house and outside. I bought a few quarts of local raw honey, my best buy of the day.

Whatcha going to make with the honey? My husband and I used to make mead and finding enough honey to do that without breaking the bank was always tricky...

We use honey on oatmeal, biscuits, toast, muffins. I put it in my tea and we like it on crispy fried chicken too. I usually don't make anything from it. Honey lasts forever so I keep a lot in the pantry. I don't care for pasteurized honey.

Wow! That was awesome---Frixion pens and honey too, even though you had to pay for the honey.

QuiltnNan 02-10-2013 12:35 PM

wow, how lucky can you get?!

BellaBoo 02-10-2013 12:50 PM

Honey was cheap! $8 a quart.

Please BellaBoo do more research on the frixon pens. I know one well known quilter is telling everyone they know - no to frixon - the pens come back to life at some point in time. Actually Dusty Farrell used to sell these pens in his booth and just recently stopped a few months back.

If you wash them with detergent, and not just iron them out- they are out of the fabric for good. Do test them on dark fabrics though as they leave white lines, and some I haven't been able to wash out (most have).

I like the highlighters for delicate fabrics like organza- the ballpoint pens tend to tear them. I use the ballpoint on cotton.
