Don't you love it

when the DH says "Honey, if you want it, buy it". Accuquilt Go - check.

Wardy74 02-28-2013 11:40 PM

Oh bless him. Thats what my DH said when I plucked up the courage to ask about a grace frame and janome 1600p. I am paying for it myself but he said " your quilting is your happy place".

NJ Quilter 03-01-2013 04:06 AM

Similar to last night...I asked DH for help in determining scale of quilt photo so I could figure out block sizes, etc. to put into EQ. Sometimes he's really a pain trying to build a better mousetrap and trying to have me think of things in a different context. So during that process he says, 'just go buy 16 yards of each of the colors you need and do it'. Did we say clueless! as to fabric costs???? But you gotta love it when they say 'just go buy it'! Enjoy.

alleyoop1 03-01-2013 04:19 AM

16 yards! You must be making a super big quilt!!! :)

FubsyMog 03-01-2013 04:51 AM

It's great when they say that - helps justify what can be an expensive hobby. Mine's very supportive of it and is actually pretty good at helping pick fabrics too.

nygal 03-01-2013 04:54 AM

Yes, I do love it when my dh says that.

Dragonomine 03-01-2013 05:36 AM

Love when my husband says that. However, I'm the one that keeps the checkbooks so his approval isn't necessary. :)

owlvamp 03-01-2013 05:42 AM

16 yards of each color he said. She's making a tent! LOL

dray965 03-01-2013 06:10 AM

Happened to me about 3 days ago. I'd been agonizing over whether to buy a Bailey or not. After a few days of hearing me worry about whether it was worth the money or not, he said those very words. LOL

BellaBoo 03-01-2013 06:43 AM

I can't imagine my DH saying anything else if I do mention wanting something. Does anyone really have a DH that says No you aren't buying that. LOL

Amen to that! NEVER let them see the checkbook - just give them an allowance!

You'd think so, wouldn't you! It will probably feel that way if I ever do get this thing made! We have a king bed with a 22 in. deep mattress!

mighty 03-01-2013 07:16 AM

Yes I love, love, love it!!!!!

My mother does, and in my younger years I used to feel sorry for her. Then I grew up and realized SHE'S the one who picked him, and actions have consequences.

he makes faces, but since he always gets what he wants in the end, I usually do too ;)

I feel your pain! We bought a new bed a little over a year ago, with an 18" drop.
I am in for making some monster sized quilts, or putting on a white bedspread and making long bed runners and shams.
I want at least a couple that "fit"

My dd married a man that i really tried to talk to both of them about...(really incompatible), but they just "had to do it".
Thank goodness their are no children.
Sometimes the price you pay for poor judgement is higher than is deserved

lol He DOES have a weekly allowance!

mamagrande 03-01-2013 09:38 AM

My old viking died, repair man said $99.50 for repair and they don't make parts for this anymore... came home with it...told DH about it and looked sad....I'll go to thrift shop to see if I could find one I said. No he said, you will only buy someone else's problems...get a new one. OK, I had already been looking for a new one, so that evening ordered one from ALLBRANDS. Happy camper!!!!

WTxRed 03-01-2013 09:43 AM

My DH and I have a great system for our Hobbies - we share with each other what we're doing, working on, etc. but he pays for his, I pay for mine and as long as we can do that, we don't really 'care' what the other one does. It works for us! I will say he did splurge for me Christmas and hired a house cleaner since between work, quilting, taking care of other family members, there weren't enough hours left in my day! Gotta Love the man :)

Stitch124 03-01-2013 09:48 AM

On our anniversary last year, I forgot that I had a quilt guild meeting to attend. I invited him to come along. I said, "There's a free pot luck dinner." So of course, he was in. We went to the meeting and he had a blast and the ladies all loved it that he actually came! That really made him realize how much talent and artistic ability it takes to make a quilt. Since then I've made two quilts and he beams from ear to ear, almost like he'd made them himself. What a man!!!

twinkie 03-02-2013 03:58 AM

I finally had to ask my hubby to stop encouraging me to buy fabric. I have to be very careful not to mention I like something.

Amythyst02 03-02-2013 05:07 AM

You know we are all pretty darn lucky to have DH that understand our craft and encourage us. "Hats off to the Guys"!!

Sandygirl 03-02-2013 05:13 AM

I just asked DH if I could upgrade my Janome 9700 sometime this year...check!
Sandy

Lyncat 03-02-2013 05:24 AM

That's how I got my Ellisimo Gold! But now I spend all my time with her instead of hanging out with him!! Oops

thequilteddove 03-02-2013 05:36 AM

Especially when he hands over HIS credit card! lol

Yes-MINE. I keep the books and do all the accounting but he always asks me-"do you really need that?" He has no hobbies other than reading and he does not like to buy books unless he 'knows' the author. He is hard to buy presents for as he always says 'I don't need anything" and clothes-forgetaboutit!!! He works from home and his clothes are sweats. When he does go out he wears cargo pants and t-shirt. Can we say nerd?? of the finest order.
The real secret is I would not change him or trade him for the world. He is the best thing to ever happen to me and loves me regardless of my 'passing fancies' and weird ideas. He just rolls his eyes when another package of fabric arrives. He does occasionally get snarky about my hobbies but all in all it passes quickly.

Sierra 03-02-2013 10:06 AM

I have a DH like that. Leaves all the guilt on me! Gotta love those men.....

He also came with me for the end of a guild meeting, in time to show off my best ever quilt. It was his 80th birthday! and we HAD to go out for a nice dinner for that occasion!!!! He is truly what would be called 80 years young. I'm so lucky!!!

Marich52 03-02-2013 06:27 PM

My husband said the same thing when talking about a Bailey. Mine came last Thursday....love it..stitches like a dream.

I don't ask, so he doesn't get the chance to say no! But if it doesn't come from Sears' tool department, I can guarantee you the answer would be no. He has yet to acknowledge one single quilt I've done.

Is he up for loan?

I had my hubby's Lowe's card, his Home Depot card and a $100 dollar bill with orders to buy paint for the living room. I spent most of the hundred at ACE!

I have to admit, I was tempted, but didn't have the time to scour either of the other places.

Actually, I was looking at buying a BabyLock Tiara (similar to the HQ16). DH went with me to look and it. While I was playing with the Tiara, he started looking at the Crown Jewel and talking to the dealer. Then he came over to me and said, "I think you would like the long arm better." It was delivered last Monday. He is having as much fun playing with it as I am. I'm going to keep him! lol

IBQUILTIN 03-02-2013 07:59 PM

Be happy with whatever they say My DH passed away in June, and now if I want it, I just have to go get it. Not nearly as much fun as figuring out how to convince him I need it

bigredharley 03-03-2013 02:24 AM

Oh, I have kept the checkbook too for 29 years, but it helped get me off the fence on whether I really wanted it.
