Roolen calls it star spin.

Maggie_Sue 11-25-2012 05:42 PM

Beautiful pattern and fabrics!!

PaperPrincess 11-25-2012 05:52 PM

It's also called strata star. Here's some info on You Tube:

Looks like your picture has more strips. Don't think it matters as long as the resultant strata is the width documented in the pattern.

that is beautiful!

It's beautiful whatever it is called!

I purchased a pattern at my LQS. It's called Crazy Eight Strip Teaser table topper, by Jae's Attic

That is the center of the Star Spin quilt. I made this quilt last year with browns and tans. If you go the the Pictures part of this forum and look for Star Spin Quilt you will find many quilts with this pattern. Mine is also posted there.

Check under the tutorials. There is an easy one right here on this board. I tried it using fabric with different width stripes and it works beautifully. Much quicker too than making the strata first.

It is either a star spin or strata star. Someone posted a picture of one today. Very pretty I want to make one someday.

nativetexan 11-26-2012 11:53 AM

yep, it's been done by many in this forum.

Beautiful and I love the colors.

Thank you all for the helpful information! Now that I know what it's called, I've found many beautiful pictures of this interesting design. Can't wait to make one of my own!

Nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Noiseynana 11-27-2012 05:25 AM

By golly , I don't know what its called but it sure is pretty !!! Is it a quilt or a wall hanging or a table topper?? Inquiring minds want to know.

maviskw 11-27-2012 06:14 AM

It could be a table topper or a wall hanging, but I would like it to be a quilt. I think I would make it as a medallion in the center and add stuff around it until it got big enough. Like smaller stars, smaller spin stars, wide borders, etc. I would think I would have to applique the star to the background. But you could also add background fabric all around until it got square. ? ? ?

It is "Crazy Eighty Strip Teaser", a table topper from www.sewwhat-quilting.com

The colors are beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

It is the center block and called Star Spin. My pattern comes from Oregon Treasures and is for a quilt or wallhanging.
Just checked their website and pattern is still avaiable.

Here is a link to the Amish quilt called star spin. http://www.amishcountrylanes.com/Pages/hs118.shtml
If you do a search here on the board there are several pictures and tutorials under the different names. I just looked at the youtube one and you see the pattern broken up into four sections. It is all straight line sewing and really not hard. I have made two table toppers, one was a donation, and have the strips cut to make another one in retro fabrics.

You're right, it is a "Crazy Eight Strip Teaser". I just finished the top for one a couple of weeks ago and then got waylayed by Christmas gifts! Hope to finish it after the first of the year.
