sahm4605 08-23-2011 09:27 AM

i love the batiks in your blocks. you get getting caught in the shades and tones of the fabrics. that is why it is looking off to you.

Very pretty. I do like your second color combination blocks that you made. Thanks for the site. You'll have to keep us posted on what you decide.

Anna O 08-23-2011 10:12 AM

I just did the math. If you start with a 6" square you will need an 8 1/2" square for the second part. You will end up with a 12 1/4" unfinished block (11 3/4" finished). If someone tries it, let me know if that is correct. Thanks!

Sandi 08-23-2011 11:35 AM

I love this patchwork and your colors! Thanks so much for showing it and offering the link.

I am off to the sewing machine to try this! Sounds unique and looks super. Hope I can remember the instructions and not have to come back to the computer. :)

All Thumbs 08-23-2011 02:13 PM

Wonder if it would be acceptable if we all posted our trial block here? It would be interesting and helpful to see how our colors blended.

cowgirlquilter 08-23-2011 02:15 PM

LOVE the colors you used!!!

OK I have been playing and have come up with this idea as I wanted to use some odd fabrics not yardage.

My 1st D9P:

1st 9 block

Original D9P

1st twist

I made the DD9P using two separate fabrics and then by fiddling about I managed to get 2 different twists ! At the same time I am using scraps, the 1st 9 block will remain constant, or nearly as I have enough of those.

2nd twist

Ah yes! You have done wonders with these cuts. I made one last night and will post later in the day. Perhaps I will try your DD9Patch cutting too. It will be a super way to get rid of small pieces.

That is so cool! I decided to play with it a bit, what if it was INFINITE?

Do the double disappearing nine patch, then use that as cornerstones for the next level, etc.

Five levels of doing this would make a quilt finish of 61 1/2".

I only worked in 1/2" increments. I figured no one will be able to tell that the block has been trimmed 1/4" or 1/8".

Also, on the first nine patch, I did a "pieced" square, just for fun.

Here is what I came up with:

how I came up with the numbers

size does not include borders, is only blocks

grammatjr 08-24-2011 08:59 AM

Oh, I just realized my seams may be off...but you get the idea!

Mine is not a real quilt, just drew it up in Excel to see what it would look like.
