double irish chain was the very first quilt I made. I thought it was pretty easy. I found the the pattern/instructions on "Quilters Cache.com.

I did one using a jungle theme and it turned out well. And I guess I will always be a beginner.

I would check on youtube for a tutorial. They seem to have everything there.

The hardest part of this very nice pattern is keeping the strips in order. Take your time and be organized. It will work great if you are comfortable with the pattern you found.
This was one of my first quilt too and I learned a lot about reading patterns and understanding them. Make a practice block or several. Pressing seams in the opposite directions so they nest when piecing the blocks.

Eleanor Burns has a great pattern that is broken down step by step. It is called "Single and double Irish Chain " quilt in a day". Check Amazon.com or alibris.com to find a used copy?

I've done a single, double and triple Irish Chain quilts, and they lend themselves beautifully with strip piecing and are not difficult. The only "difficult" part is keeping the strip sets in the correct order, which can be easily done with a small paste up block to keep you on track. The double Irish Chain is an easy quilt to make. Hope you can post a picture when it's finished.

I followed a pattern in a book and had no problems at all. I made one in 2002, among the first few after I started machine quilting. I still have it.
