I bought this nice bundle of double knit material today, along with 2 package of bias tape for $2.50. My garage sale bargain. I don't get to hunt the garage sales or thrift stores often, but was lucky to stop in at this one today! I think it will make nice backing on some cuddle quilts, does anyone else use double knit?

Double knits are stretchy. I think I would use them for a utility quilt top backed with cotton, and would plan on tying the quilt.

Double knits are nice in that they wear like iron and never fade. Because of the stretchiness, a simple pattern with fairly large pieces would be best. I would use cotton backing to keep the stretch under control.

Someone on this board made a beautiful quilt out of double knit. I don't remember who it was but here's a pic.

Ok, I am trying again to show my picture of my bargain! My internet connection is soooo bad. I have read the comments and plan on using the suggestions with this knit. Each piece is approx. 45"x45"

Are you talking the 60s and 70s polyester double-knits?

Some of them have very little stretch. And sometimes the stretch is in only one direction.

Give them a tug and see what they do.

You could burn a tiny scrap and see what it does. If it puts out black smoke, it has poly (or nylon or dacron) in it.

If poly, it is extremely durable - it if isn't burned - Makes fantastic utility/everyday/let the kids play on them quilts.

Nice colors and will make warn quilts. I don't use it.
