Double sided quilt - has anyone done this?

I am working on memory quilts.... I was given soooo much clothing to include. I usually have my quilt top and then cotton for backing or fleece for backing When I was looking at all of this clothing, I wondered about making 2 quilt tops.. 1 for the front and 1 for the back.... I could put batting in the middle. Will this work? has anyone done this?

I just finished one that sounds like what your talking about. The back is actually prettier than the front! When you have it quilted just make sure the thread will work for both sides. Do not do any specialized quilting that fits for just one side. If you follow these ideas you will have a quilt that's reversible! I had the quilt quilted with stipling that was just perfect for both sides.

Oh yes. Reversible Quilts by Sharon Pedersen has some lovely ones. she also does them in Quilt As You Go method.

If you are going to send it out to be long-armed - assume that the LAer will NOT be able to line them up perfectly - so use a design that has some wiggle room for placement.

I make reversible quilts and never have any issues. here is one I just made last weekend, I do the FMQ'ing on my sewing machine so I do not have the problem with lining up front and back as I hear that longarms have when doing reversible quilts

All of my quilts are two sided because there are too many patterns I just want to try. I always design the main side that the quilter must work around and then the back that I know won't be catered to. It works out fine.

I haven't done it, but it sounds like a great solution to your "problem" of too much clothing to include in the quilt.

Thank you for your thoughts.. and the pictures are great! I just never thought about doing a reversible.... I may do that

x2 on the Pederson books, I have the book, but have not tried the technique. But I saw some really nice ones at a quilt show and the woman recommended the book.

Reversible quilts are the bomb! I love making them because you get two quilts for the price of one, so to speak. But I agree, make sure at least one side is a design that doesn't have to be precisely centered or lined up with the other side.
