I was getting skipped stitches & broken thread in a class where I was trying to stitch through sticky interfacing. I think my needle was getting gunky. It could be that your needle is damaged or gummed up in some way. I'd try a different needle.

Thanks ladies! My test fabric was the same as what I'm using in my project. There was no problem then. I just finished taking the vacuum to the bobbin casing and I will change my needle too. Then it will be time to cross my fingers and pray. Lol

I fixed a friend's machine that had this problem. In her case, she had accidentally placed the bobbin for another machine in the one that started having the problems. The plastic bobbins looked almost identical, but they were not exactly the same.

If the problem started after changing the bobbin, try using a different bobbin. Sometimes a bobbin will become distorted just enough to create problems.

I've had this problem happen when I use the wrong needle for the fabric.

If the above doesn't fix your problem. Have your broken a needle lately. Maybe you have a burr somewhere, either on the needle plate, bobbin case or the hook. Just take some thread and run it across like dental floss and see if it catches or snags on anything. If so you can smooth that off with some very fine rasp or sand paper.

Similar to what I was going to suggest....run some dental floss through your upper thread path to make sure there are no little wisps of thread caught in there as well. I think waxed is recommended for this???? And take a magnifying glass to the bobbin area. Had a friend's machine misbehaving VERY badly. A teeny tiny bit of thread in the bobbin was the culprit. Once picked out with tweezers...running perfectly again.

No, it is ***unwaxed*** dental floss that is recommended for cleaning the upper tension discs. You floss the discs similar to how you would floss teeth. It's important not to use wax (waxed dental floss *or* waxed hand quilting thread) in a machine; it gunks up the tension.

The magnifying glass is a really good idea. It takes only a tiny bit of thread or lint caught where it shouldn't be to cause problems.

Is the thread coming off in the right direction? It depends how the thread is wound on the spool as to how it comes off. Cross wound has to come off upright and other wind comes off horizonal on my machine.

I had this issue with BOTH my Brother machines (NV1000 7 innov-Is 1500d)
a few months ago.

With both machines there was a burr in the bobbin case.

After getting both machines serviced the 1500D was still giving me issues
like this. That ended up being a P.E.B.C.A.K. problem (that means me), I
had the wrong embroidery foot on the machine.
