has anyone ever made a double wedding ring quilt using jelly rolls? and if so how did you do it? are there any patterns for it?

When I made a dbl wedding ring I used the interfacing that you sew the stips to. Quilt smart I think they are called.

There is a pattern in the current, April/May 2011, Quilt Magazine. It is called Tying the Knot. I really like this pattern, it is paper pieced. The focal fabric is cut in 2 1/2" X 4" and 3 1/4" pieces. The 3 1/4" pieces can be yardage of a single fabric or like in the pattern two different fabrics. All the fabric pieces in the rings will be from your jellyroll.

"Rings That Bind" by Cheryl Phillips can be made with strips but I don't remember the size or if she even gives a size because it can be done with solid pieces also. I just watched the video and I don't think the size strip matters anyway so yes, you could use jelly rolls. http://www.hgtv.com/search/results.d...hType=HGTV.com

I bought a bunch of of green & purple fabrics to make a queen size one for my son after I got the book & tool but haven't made it that far down my to-do list yet.

I'm sure it will take several jelly rolls even if you're just using them for the arcs. There is quite a bit of waste making any non-square pattern & if you use the "Rings that Bind" method, it will be more than the Quiltsmart interfacing would waste. Doable either way, though.

Have you attempted your double wedding ring quilt? I'm currently in the middle of one using Jelly Rolls. Since it is such a large project I used jelly rolls to cut down on all the cutting. I'm using foundation piecing for the arcs and jelly rolls are actually working out quite well.

This project is taking me forever as I have only been quilting for a hand full of years and this pattern is a bit of a challenge for me. So I have been putting it aside to do other projects that boost my confidence a bit, like log cabins and easier strip piecing projects.

Let me know how yours is going.. and any tips you may have..

i dident end up using jelly rolls. i just cut strips from my stash this is a pictrure of the compleated top i used the quilt smart method.

Both quilts are beautiful.

I have a yard of the quitlsmart interfacing with the dwr patter on it. I also picked up SEVERAL yards of super light weight interfacing to make my own.

ya i just traced the pattern on regular light weight interfacing costs alot less than buying it already printed but its a bit tiring to trace out all those arcs. have fun making your quilt.
