Double Wedding Ring quilt
 

My daughter is getting married 5/31/14. I would love to do a Queen size double wedding quilt, BUT I'm wondering if there are any "short cuts" that others have used. I want to do batiks and if I purchase jelly rolls am wondering about any bleeding if the quilt gets washed. Is there a method similar to the "promise ring" quilt pattern? Would an Accu Go cutter be a good investment? Does that system use a template that works for the wedding ring block? Any ideas are appreciated.

I made one using this method: http://phillipsfiberart.danemcoweb.c...ngs-that-bind/ It was easy and didn't have to be sent out to be quilted. I also have the Go DWR die. I haven't used it though.

I just watched Eleanor Burns free video on her website and she shows an easier way to do it. You would probably want her templates if you liked this method.

John Flynn has an easy method for double wedding ring quilts. http://flynnquilt.danemcoweb.com/sho...e+wedding+ring His instructions call for making strip sets, cutting strips and then taking tucks in the seams (or changing the seam). then use a template to cut the arc out of the strips.

Another way would be to use an ombre fabric (one that fades from dark to light colors across the fabric), and cut out with a template (that's like Cheryl Phillips method). Or just use a single fabric for the arcs.

I took a class using that book and template set. The process was fast and fun. I loved that it was a quiltas you go type of project. Mine was done by the end of class. The surprise was that there was only about 5 of us! However, we each chose different material. Quilters in the shop that Saturday couldn't resist coming in to see what fun we were having and wishing the cover hadn't put them off the class. Just goes to show how much marketing - having a great display - does for the quilt shops.

I did it the hard way using acrylic templates. UGH !! At least that quilt is off my Bucket list......

visit *QuiltSmart* they have great patterns for double wedding rings,, along with many others that make it so easy! their fusible interfacings & great patterns/instruction books make many (complicated) quilt patterns easy even for beginners. I've used many of them over the years, 'double wedding ring, lonestar's, mariner's compass...there are many- easy, precise, makes it fun....as for the batiks...I would purchase 1/2 yd pieces & pre-wash them instead of using jelly rolls- it is easier to pre-wash larger pieces & there is always a risk of batiks bleeding when you least want it to.

I recommend pre washing all fabrics, to be sure they won't bleed later. I think the Quilt In A Day method by Eleanor Burns is the easiest. But did I do mine that way? No, the old fashioned hand piecing and hand quilting.
