I want to make a table runner this week-end and was thinking of using the DP9 to make blocks for it. If I am only using 3 or 4 fabrics where do I need to put the larger size print one that I want to see bigger pieces of in the runner. When I do up the 9 patch or whatever where do I need to place the larger print?

If I were making it, I would put them in the corners, so you don't cut through the middle of them.

Well, dummie me. I went to a tutorial and I think I figured out the answer. It seems I should place my big print fabric that I want to see in bigger pieces in the corners of the 9 patch. Then I can use 2 other colors in the other positions. Will still be interested to see your comments.

Your corner blocks are where you will want to have your larger or main full sq. You cut through the middle blocks so the only full block will be on the 4 corners. Hope this makes since

If you want to keep the large prints put them in the four corners.
Whatever you put in the very centre will be cut in 4 small squares
and the rest will be rectangles. Here's a tutorial. Hope this helps.

Thanks to each of you. The tutorial that you mentioned, EasyPeezy is the one I went to. It was very helpful. So I know I am doing that for my table topper. Haven't decided whether to do it in a runner style or in a topper (square style. Depends on how big the blocks are.

I find that I have good results if I put my focus fabric in the outside squares, the darkest solid fabric in the centre square and the medium smaller tone on tone or small print that ends up being cut into rectangles in the alternate squares. It just seems to balance out the quilt better this way.
