Dresden Fan Quilt??
 

Does anyone have a pattern or info on a Dresden Fan quilt? I saw one that was put together in a neat layout that scrolled around.
I like it better than the dresden plate. They can look so "spotty". Like plates on the quilt top. Gee. Wonder why.

It sounds like you are talking about my friend's quilt "Lets do the Dresden Twist". That is an original pattern that she designed on EQ. On the below link it is the first few pictures showing.

Dresden plates are not difficult. Look for a free pattern. It is preferred to have a template for cutting. I was taught you sew a seam across the top and then turn it inside out. That is all there is to it.

The pointed ones definitely look easier to get the edge finished for sewing to the background. Unfortunately I don't like that style. I like the rounded petals better. So I'm also researching the best approach to getting the rounded end ready for applique and also how to attach it. Hand applique or machine.?

Fons and Porter had one in Love of Quilting Magazine a couple of years ago. It was for a table topper and placemats. Imade it up and enjoy it every day. The table topper had a complete dresden plate but the place mats had just several sections. You can use as many or as few blades as you want for the effect you are after. To make the rounded blades I stitched with the machine around the end 1/4 inch and used the stitching line (which was turned under) as a guide to applique it down. Had a very nice curve.
