Dritz chalk removal
 

Does anyone know how to remove Dritz orange chalk from a quilt? A friend of mine used several kinds of soap, spray and wash, oxy clean and borax and the orange is still in her quilt. She finally decided to put bleach in the washer (yes, I know this sounds disastrous) and the orange is still in the quilt. The bleach turned her peach quilt - pink but did not take out the chalk. Has anyone had this problem? The chalk is the kind that is skinny and fits up in the pen.

Not used the orange, but used the yellow on off white, left a pink/orange mark which never did wash out. I do not use that anymore. Once was enough.

There has been numerous posts dealing with Clover color chalk. I have NEVER had any problems with their white, it comes mostly off by hand and the rest with a damp cloth. But I could NOT remove their blue from my quilt. Someone else had problems not able to remove Clover's yellow chalk.

I use colored chalk when I need to- I always remove it by brushing it off... Then I use a fabric eraser. I found if I get it wet or if (heaven forbid) it gets hit with an iron there's a good chance its there to stay. Before doing all kinds of things that could make things worse I contact the company or visit their website for instructions. I wonder if they put dye in the chalk to give it color and it is the dye in the chalk that remains. Or, if the chalk itself stays in the fabric. Seems that in all the years of teaching using chalk, I never had a problem with white chalk coming out of fabric...but then I never used colored chalk.

And the lesson learned is to always check any marking tool on the fabric you will be using it on. (Checking it means being sure you can get it out, and finding out whether water, time or heat affects it.)

Good question. I still have yellow clover chalk in a quilt that has been washed in various solutions. I even tried erasing it!!

I'm told the Bohin marks come off, even the colored ones. The leads aren't chalk.
