Well, to tell sort of the truth, I have 30 bags with cloth and patterns put together. I keep going on shop hops with patterns in hand and buy the fabric for those patterns. They then go into bags and as soon as I finish one, I have all the fabric, matching thread, templates if necessary, the whole ball of wax ready to go. I have one to finish quilting and binding and one to bind and those tow are done and then I choose a bag of goodies and get going on the next one. :D :D

Here I thought someone should spank my hand for not finishing this top I started on months ago. It's done...but I was discouraged that the size was sooooooo much smaller than it said it would be. Even after I added the borders. I HATE MATH!!! So I cut out the pieces for 8 more blocks. Now if I could get those eight blocks sewn together now that I have them finished, I could rip the borders off (Not a big fan of frog sewing either rrrrrip it rrrrrip it), then I could add the 2 rows on, add the borders back on and then I might be done.....But I have 2 more patterns in my brain and am starting to complie fabric for them.....and schools almost out so my time is almost gone.....
Perhaps I should move to a state that has school all year????? HA |
I just made the mistake of checking my list from page 1. I've managed to finish only one thing on that list. "Worse" is that I've added to it.

When I took up quilting about 4 years ago, I lived in a house that did not have much room for sewing ( a small nook in my kitchen). My stash all had to fit in a wicker basket/coffee table. I didn't have room for things to accumulate, so I just made a commitment that I wouldn't start anything new until I'd finished what I was working on. Even though we've retired and moved into a bigger house, I'm trying to stick to that. I took one of the bedrooms and converted it to a sewing room. I am beginning to accumulate extra blocks and squares (I sometimes change my mind mid project), but so far no UFO's. I will say my stash has exploded, however. No longer fits in my basket alone.

Reading thru these, is real good to know that I'm not on my own and have had a good giggle too. I don't think I really want to go into the size of my problem :oops: and I don't want a cure :lol: But suffice to say that before I met my DH I lived in this house on my own for 5 years and didn't need to consider anyone elses need for space. I'm sure you can paint an appropriate picture :mrgreen: |

Well now how interesting, I was cleaning, yes CLEANING, my sewing room and put all my UFO's in a pile, so that is my PROJECT table. I counted 5..... :shock: But what about the pigs and ufo's in our MIND.....youi know the ones that are in the thinking stage..... :roll: Myself I have no pigs I get 'em otta the sack and get em on the PROJECT table..... :lol: Now....you all know how my brain works.....oh yeah, I have 5 tops to sandwich yet so you do the math I am too tired.....lol :P

Thinking about this make me a bit overwhelmed..lol. I have one top done ready to be quilted for granddaughter. One top ready for applique for other granddaughter's first birthday and one quilt with the Ohio stars done and ready to be put together. I have 12 sets of snowmen without heads that need to be finsihed and mailed by friday and 12 sets of snowman who need to have accessories by friday so I can have them for a bazarr.

2. Snowman BOM - twin - pinned and waiting to be quilted 3. Grandmother's Flower Garden - 8 out of 20 blocks done - waiting until Christmas projects are done. 4. Candle wall hanging - piecing 5. Christmas tree place mats - needs binding put on 6. Santa wall hanging - cut out and laughing at me 7. Lily stained glass wall hanging - cut out and just scoffing me 8. Two spring table runners - need to put blanket stitch around the edges - I'll leave you to guess how long I've been working on these. 9. Three fabric bowls - cut out. I think that's it. At least it's all that I can think of. If there's anything else, I really don't want to know about it. Lee |

Card Trick, half pieced. Started in 2004 and in the UFO box.
3 Bean Salad, blocks done but need to applique chili peppers in 1/2 of them and find backing I love. 2 patriotic quilts started and they are in shoe boxes now. Black and pink cat print quilt for sis. Sashing doesn't line up, so that got thrown in a bin for someday. 2 unquilted baby quilts, 1 partially pieced baby quilt. 1 with most of the pieces cut but no piecing. 1 almost F-$@*&ed! |
1 mystery quilt in progress. I have 2 steps of the 3 I've received. It's a 6 part series.

Chairjogger.. just like Patrice.. I too had to give up counting as there are so many one of these days I will be caught in an avalanche of UFOs and other projects ready to be "Finished"!! :) and I don't help matters either when I add more to the pile!! LOL

I love to read this and think that I am not alone. My kids think I'm crazy because I have 9 quilts that are sandwiched and ready to quilt sitting on my son's bed. (he left in Nov with the Navy) I did work on 3 of those this weekend, but they still need the binding finished and labels because they are wedding gifts. I have 5 more that are tops without boarders, 2 ready to be sandwiched, and a collection of 11 different block of the month, or block exchanges that need to be put together. There is another 4 sets of blocks that I made that need joining. I am not going to count the rest of the grouped with patterns PITS (projects in tubs) It is way too embarrassing.

i have discovered one advantage to having a pile of UFOs.
when an unexpected occassion comes up for which i need a special gift in a hurry, i can WIP a UFO out of the pile, polish it off, and hand it over. one less UFO; somebody gets something they will treasure; everybody thinks your some kinda genius super-quilter because you "just found out about it" and were able to deliver a quilt in a "jiffy". :wink: |
Great Idea!! I just keep trying to make it "personal" maybe I need to just grab one of mine too for a wedding gift. Everyone is getting married these days (all my kid's friends that it)

Well let me think, Ok I am still working on the attic window comforter. It has 11, 8 inch blocks across and 14 down. I am currentlly on row 10. That is of sewing the blocks to each other into rows. I have the friendship knot, one block looking at me every day. The Beautiful piece of material I won from the ugliest piece of material Looking at me real hard everyday,since I decided what block to put it in. A baby quilt for a niece of my DH who has 6 boys and finally is baking a girl GOD HELP HER. :shock: :shock: :shock: I would have given up after the 2nd boy, in the beginning stages. A lone star that makes me go GRR! when I look at it :twisted: :twisted: I will not look into my box to really count. It would scare me. :lol: :lol:

QuiltinLee, don't be depressed, you have probably started others in the last year. I'm sure that you were productive in other things. I have some that have been around a while(years) simply because I can't decide how I want to quilt it, (cause that's not my strong area)

okay, there are a few in my room, just finished the top last night. this will make 4 lap and have a queen size my mom gave me to put together. waiting until it is colder out. maybe by christmas.

So fess up, how many projects do you have going on? tim in san jose 1. blue and white king-size "fans" blocks cut (more than 2 yrs) 2. scrappy queen-size "rob peter.." putting rows together (over 1 yr) 3. repro wallhanging "sisters choice" for my sister, in the cutting (just started) 4. red and brown queen-size (app.96 x 96 my favorite size)"twirlythingys" (still cutting blocks at least 8-9 mos) 5. several "stack'n'whack" blocks (just to see what i really think) 6. part of a quilt top from the 20's i'm guessing, really ugly, that i have to decide what to do with. (deciding for 7 years) a. also, very neatly trimming and keeping all the cut-offs from everything in case i ever need them. ho ho b. rewashing most of my stash that's so dusty from hanging around c. actually organizing my patterns, tutorials and other printed matter into neat file folders. wish me luck. d. tryng to clean up my sewing and quiltng room so i have space to sew and quilt. AND FINALLY this year i finished two 100 x 100 quilts, "hexagons" and square "trip around the world" in the making for the last 33 years. my kids are so happy to finally get them they're considering donating them to the smithsonian as lost works of art seen in famous cave paintings. not much compared to what some of you do. |

Keep in mind I've only been quilting for a couple years, and I have two little ones -- a one year old and a two year old. So, my UFO list is rather short, but not for lack of trying... :wink: 1. Lap quilt for Memaw for this Christmas -- top done, still need to quilt and bind. 2. Lap quilt for Grandmama for this Christmas -- ditto the first. 3. Baby quilt for friend's shower -- top almost complete, shower at the end of Oct. 4. "Signature" quilt for the baby shower (see #3) -- strips cut out, nothing else done. I almost hate to admit how many non-quilting UFO's I have not completed, even years after the initial start... :oops: |

I have one that I'm currently working on, sewing the rows together. I have one with half the blocks cut out that I'm doing embroidery on before I actually assemble the quilt. Three out of five blocks are finished. I have a quilt top for my husband to tie and bind I just signed up to do the star block exchange I'm waiting on a quilt kit to come from operation quiet comfort And numerous other projects in my head that I'd love to start! Wow, I have more UFO's than I thought...is that a good thing or a bad thing? |

oh my! no using the word finished? EEE GADS! If we didn't hope and speak of the end how would anything ever get done?
I have 3 double sized quilts and one king that I'm working on -one is ready to quilt (which I do myself in my little machine) two are nearly ready to quilt and the last is awaiting borders. I also have my charity ones which are on the front burner thanks to boston i.e. Anne and her UFO challenge. I also have the block challenge, but I'm nearly done with that and there is lots of time left. As Patrice said, there's stuff in my head but those don't count till I "start". |
I have one that I started about 15 years ago...my very first attempt at quilting. It was a queen-size with 'bulls-eye' or 'does & darts' (or something like that) for the blocks. Nothing like choosing a complex block for your first attempt. I ran out of patience and didn't make another attempt until a couple of years ago. This time I did it right and started out simple.
That quilt top is very close to finished, but every time I take it out and think about finishing it, I just look at how NOTHING lines up on it and think how much work it would be and never get around to it. Somehow, I have finished each project I have started. It is my goal to not have any other quilt top or other project sit around unfinished for 15 years ever again! |
Is there are rabbit gene in quilt fabric? I think mine are multiplying! Help me before I'm overtaken!
