Drunkards path template

Trying to decide on a large or small drunkards path template. Both are 10 inches . Large has 8 inch cut out, small has 4 inch. It seems the small would offer greater flexibility in making also a smaller block. Which do you use more?

I have both of them.....I found the curve on the smaller one a bit more difficult...so I like using the larger one better.

I have both and made a king size quilt last summer. Good COVID quilt it is now on our bed. I use both sizes on this scrappy quilt. The first layout is empty in spaces I plan to put the 4" pieces. The finished quilt was much larger I couldn't fit the whole thin in the second picture So as you can see I use both sizes in my scrappy quilt.

If you want to do traditional patterns, then the small one would let you develop the pattern quicker. If you want a more random modern look, then the big one is easier to work with and makes a good size quilt top quicker.

I love using my smaller one and have done so often. I did not too long ago purchase the large one with the small curve section. not sure if I will love it but wanted to use up some layer cakes.

My first class was a Christmas sampler. One of the blocks had a drunkard's path. I dreaded making it. It reminded me too much of setting sleeves which is one of the main reasons I quilt instead of garment sewing. When I did the block, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but close.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Having learned how to set in sleeves has helped me more in my quilt making then any other sewing skill. The magic of a circle fabric piece magically fitting another circle when it seems impossible without puckers is a skill worth learning.

If you are a beginner at curves, the larger one will be easier to create smooth curves.
Rather than using templates, I got the creative grids circular ruler and can make a bunch of sizes of circles.

I have the small template but have never used it. Juliasb-love your quilt and it is so pretty how you incorporated both size DP. Great idea.
