Hi all, I am embarking on my first quilting project and was interested in getting some advice/opinions on using "dry clean only" fabric. Thanks!

I have had some clothing that had "dry clean only" and I washed in anyway and it did fine. You might try washing a sample and see how it works. I would not use "dry Clean only" on a bed quilt. Thats just my opinion.

If it is going to need to be cleaned very often, I would avoid dry clean only fabrics :D:D:D

I've washed various home decorating types of fabric that were labeled "Dry Clean". It may shrink, lose some finish, become less shiny or become limp, but most of the time it was ok for what I wanted to use it for. Mostly placemats, runner, aprons, etc. Never used in a quilt.

Who/what will it be for?

I try to avoid dry clean only fabrics like the plague because:

1) I hate to pay dry cleaning charges

2) It seems like taking something to a dry cleaner is so inconvenient and it stays in the "to do" pile forever

3) I don't like the chemicals used in dry cleaning

The only things I truly consider 'dry clean only' are ones made of wool, and some of those I hand wash and hang to dry successfully.

Most things that have the 'dry clean only' label can be done on gentle wash with cold water and low heat dry.
