Duct tape comes in handy
1 Attachment(s)
Can't believe I've done this! While cutting strips for 16 patch blocks I forgot to move my stipple stencil off the cutting mat and sliced right through it. Yikes!! I can order a new one, but hate to pay shipping for this alone, so will wait until I need something else from Missouri Star, or drive 20+ miles to the local quilt shop.. In the meantime, husbands duct tape may get me through my next quilt top. Hopefully.....

husband to the rescue! sometimes they are worth their weight in gold!!

Oh dear! Reminds me of the time I snapped my big 15 acrylic square. I used clear packing tape to connect the 2 halves, still working fine.😁
|
I keep a roll of clear packing tape in a dispenser in my sewing room. I find lots of uses for it.
|
I use whatever will work. I have used clear packing tape also.

i very carefully rested my 6 1/2" x 24" ruler standing up on the seat of my chair while using another ruler to cut. Promptly snapped it in half when I sat on it to mark some things on my papers.... very upset! I managed to patch it by super glueing the two halves together, using baking soda to draw the glue into the joint, and attaching another ( 4 1/2" square) over the joint for stability and strength. The ruler is still going strong years later.
The baking soda fix was the advice from the local hardware store (which has since closed)... our friends used to say:" If Howey's doesn't have it, you don't need it"... sure miss that store... |
It sounds as though you are experienced at meander quilting. Have you tried to do same without marking your quilt project? Perhaps this is a sign to stretch your wings, and go for it! Give it a try. Anxious to hear how it goes.

Yes, I have done meandering without a stencil, but for some projects that I use my designated machien for I like the consistancy that the stencil provides. I also have a Janome 1600P on a small Grace frame for the larger projects. Somehow for me, it's almost like two different meandering. I'm wierd...I know it.

Hmmm......... I just cut my favorite ruler with my Accuquilt cutter!!! lololol

Just make sure to keep your needle away from the duct tape. Many years ago, DD bought some new jeans and, in a hurry to wear them, before her next trip home to let me take up the hem, she folded the legs up and used duct tape to secure the hems. Fast forward a couple of weeks and the air around this Mum's head was blue with very 'bad language' as I battled to sew the new hems through the duct tape residue. Nothing would get rid of that $(#&%#(* duct tape!!
